In the fall of 1987, Byrnes Lake was transformed into Camp Crystal Lake for the filming of parts of the iconic movie, Friday the 13th VII. Surprisingly, only a handful of locals were aware of this exciting event taking place in their own backyard. However, Leslie Buzbee (Pictured Below), fish camp owner from Spanish Fort, had the unique job of keeping an eye out for any alligators that might approach the actors while in the water.
But that's not all, other scenes from the movie were also shot in the charming towns of Bay Minette, Point Clear, and Stockton. In fact, if you pay close attention, you may even spot a few members of the Stockton Fire Department making an appearance towards the end of the film (Pictured Below).
So... Next time you find yourself near Byrnes Lake, take a moment to appreciate the movie magic that once unfolded there. It's a testament to the hidden gems and untapped potential that can be found in even the most unassuming corners of our world.
