TOWARDS RACIAL JUSTICE AND
EQUAL TREATMENT FOR ALL
The current racial inequities in our society are intolerable.

The problems are structural, and they have been around for centuries. We’ve again realized, as Lincoln said, that we are a house divided against itself – and the fundamental reason is the same in 2020 as it was in 1861, race.

Put in its simplest terms: people in the United States are treated differently depending on what they look like. That needs to be understood and changed.

Of course, systems and structures don’t change overnight. They require each of us to think about where we are in society, what our responsibilities are to others and what meaningful changes need to be made. Some needed changes are individual, some are in the organizations in which we work, and some things can only be changed by significant policy shifts.

People who work for community nonprofits know this takes dedication and commitment. They work to change the world one person at a time.

There are people and organizations who have been focused on issues of racism and its inequities day after day for years, across America and right here in Connecticut. They can help us all. Please contact them if you’re interested in working towards long-term change. Find out what their ideas are to start the slow process of changing personal attitudes, workplaces and government policies.

Here are just a few examples of Alliance members that may be able to help:
There are other organizations throughout Connecticut that also have ideas and can use your support, too many to list.

Overcoming racial inequities will take years of hard work and dedication. It will only happen if people take the steps they need to as individuals, re-think the way organizations are structured and advocate for changes in law.

It will only happen if we start today.
