A news round-up from the Town of Henniker, NH
Friday December 11, 2020
That's it... I'm sick of it, I've had enough!!!

You felt that, didn't you? Whether you are thinking of COVID-19, social unrest, news-entertainment reporting, excessive political jousting, fake friends, diminishing health, risky relationships or simply that winter is upon us. So there you go, now what? Some of the people you know have retreated to a SSS. I don't mean staff summary sheet or small shelter system, I am talking about sitting in silence and suffering.

More people have hurt themselves or others at a disproportionate rate during these last seven months. Compliance and civility has been reported to be in flux across the Nation. So what can be done? Where can one turn for assistance? I have spoken with solid sources for consideration in recent months. What I have learned is that there are many points of pain that are unaddressed and potentially getting more intense when only people involved in the household know what is going on.

When things don't go so well one would be at risk for feeling excessive guilt or shame. This would be another opportunity to have a perception of low self-worth or confidence. I have heard it said that guilt is something that one feels after they have done something wrong, and shame is when a person feels that they are wrong. There is a significant difference in the weight of both, either way, it is a heavy burden.

So how do we deal with this? We need to speak to people we can trust in order to allow oneself to walk the path towards healing internally. Some may use the arts for a reprieve from the daily grind. For those that are used to being in group activities, find ways to virtually gather, compete or collaborate. An example is musicians are still performing from individual locations, as a band, using video conference technology. The platforms and potentials are practically perpetual.

What will you do from now through the end of 2021 to enhance your communities, families and spheres of influence?

We must take purposeful actions, in realistic steps and measures to effectuate positive change. I encourage you to use your fears and emotions as fuel towards legitimate and sustainable civil engagement. Use your passion, platform, podium, pulpit, profession, posts, and even your politics to promote proper people performances!

Don't we all desire and deserve this? What will you do? That's a real question! Leaders lead!

TOWN OF HENNIKER UPDATE ON COVID-19

As of December 9, 2020 we have 20 active cases (0.41% of population), 95 cumulative cases (2% of population) and 2,553 people have been tested (53% of population). The positivity rate for Henniker is currently at 11.1%. (Positivity rate refers to the percentage of all coronavirus tests that have come back positive.)

A few basic tips on COVID-19 pandemic hygiene:
  • Continue to wear a mask, wash hands frequently, and maintain physical distancing of six feet or more;
  • Avoid large gatherings;
  • Limit your close contacts. A close contact is defined as someone who was within six feet of an infected person for at least 10 minutes starting from two days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic cases, two days prior to positive specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated. Reducing close contacts decreases the likelihood of contracting COVID-19;
  • If you are in quarantine, follow the rules and stay in quarantine.

Common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath, fatigue, chills, muscle aches, loss of taste and smell and, in severe cases, difficulty breathing, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. For more about the symptoms of COVID-19, go to CDC COVID-19 FAQs.

PACKAGE THEFT

With the holiday season upon us, and online shopping at a record high, Chief French is recommending the following tips to make sure you get packages securely in the coming weeks.

  • If you can, and are not working from home, have your package delivered to your office or workplace.
  • Have your deliveries sent to a friend or relative who you know will be home.
  • Have packages held at the Post Office for pickup.
  • Install a camera or other security device to monitor the area where packages are dropped off.
  • Track deliveries and request carriers to leave packages in an obscure location on your property where someone driving by may not see it.
  • Bring packages inside as soon as possible. Leaving a stack of boxes by your front door is an invitation to those looking to steal what you have ordered!

If you notice suspicious activity in your neighborhood, especially out of place vehicles or people without carrier uniforms going to houses and moving packages, please contact the Henniker Police immediately.
