We urge you to tune in to seen an overview of the inventory of natural resources being prepared which will be finalized next spring. You will be proud of our beautiful town! Here are comments from Aki Busch, Conservation Advisory Council (CAC) Chair:
"The Conservation Advisory Council (CAC) is pleased to announce that we are well along the way in developing Union Vale’s Natural Resources Inventory, or NRI. Sean Carroll, GIS/Environmental Resource Educator at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, has been constructing the series of maps with funding allocated by the Hudson River Estuary Program at no cost to the town. The maps include aerial and base maps, maps of agricultural districts, farmland soils, flood areas, steep slopes, topography and elevation, wetlands, stream habitats, large forests, land cover and a number of others.
The CAC is delighted to show this mapping work to the town board at its meeting on September 17 and invites Union Vale residents to attend as well. Nate Nardi-Cyrus, our consultant on this project from the DEC, will be present to give the board an overview from DEC perspective. We are looking forward to showing these to you; these maps offer all of us a tremendous amount of new information about the town we live in. More importantly, the NRI can cultivate stewardship of resources; inform the planning, design and review of new development; and establish a foundation for plans and policies to protect crucial resources
We look forward as well to getting your questions and feedback. Once the maps are complete, the CAC will work on the written narratives to accompany the visual material, with the goal of having the completed
Union Vale NRI in early spring, 2021. - Aki Busch"
