Town’s Emergency Response Centre Deactivated
The Town of High River’s official Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) was deactivated on Monday, June 22, 2020. The EOC was activated in March when a coordinated effort was required at the height of the pandemic. For three months, the Town organized activities through this team to ensure the safety of the community. COVID-19 continues to be a health concern. The Town will continue to follow guidance from Alberta health officials and the province as we follow through with our local relaunch plans. The highriver.ca/-covid19 page will continue as a source of information to residents. As changes are happening more quickly we would like to keep people informed as they happen. Rather than send out weekly Community Updates, we will share individual updates on the Town website, social media channels and in the Town Crier.
Emerson Lake Fence Repairs
Town’s Emergency Response Centre Deactivated Residents using the pathway at the north end of Emerson Lake are advised that there will be work crews and equipment on site to repair and replace sections of a damaged chain link fence
which started on Thursday, June 18.

The half mile section of fence is partially lying in the grass and poses a safety hazard to park users, since the chain link is topped with barbed wire. Residents are advised to use caution in this area. The section of the fence that is down will be replaced with new chain link. The barbed wire and arms to support it will be removed from the entire half mile section of fencing.

The contractor began work on June 18, 2020 and the project will be completed by mid-summer. The wildlife viewing platform which was removed earlier will be replaced this summer as part of a separate project under the direction of the Parks Division.
Construction Corner
Road Closure: 12th Avenue SW
Starting on Monday, June 29, 12th Avenue SW will be closed between just west of Baker Creek to 72nd Street for construction of the Baker Creek crossing – part of the SW Dike project. This will be the first of several closures of 12th
Avenue SW until the fall of 2020. Additional closures throughout the summer will impact 12th Avenue SW between Baker Creek and the Centre Street roundabout. Detour routes will be posted. A temporary road closure of 88th Street South of the roundabout will be in effect until June 27.

High Country Drive: Closure Update
Changes to the traffic pattern on High Country Drive will take effect on Monday, June 29, 2020. The two eastbound lanes between the access road into the commercial mall and Centre Street will be closed. This closure will continue until the sanitary sewer line construction project is completed later this year. The two westbound lanes between Centre Street and the mall businesses will remain open but will be converted to accommodate two-way traffic. This will also require adjustments to the intersection of Centre Street and High Country Drive.
