Preparing Trees for Storms

The Public’s Works Department has been in a race against the weather to prune and maintain as many trees within the Town’s Right of Ways and complexes as storms begin to hit the valley. Each year, the Public Works staff heavily prunes trees at least twice a year. This year the department focused on identifying trees that were too heavy to withstand the high winds of the monsoon storms. Crews have been out for the last few weeks thinning out trees that appeared to be too heavy to help preserve and maintain a healthy tree population throughout the Town.

It is recommended to seek the services of tree care professionals or a certified Arborist to help maintain trees within your property. These trained individuals will provide expert knowledge with tree care depending on the species of tree you are working with or planning to plant within your property.

Some tips to maintain a healthy tree:

-         Consult with a certified arborist for any maintenance needs

-         Ensure proper water schedules are established throughout the year

-         Monitor for diseases, dead branches, and insect problems

-         Thin as needed prior to storm season to withstand high winds

The public’s help in identifying trees in need of attention within Town Right of Way is always welcomed. Please contact the Public Works Department with any concerns or questions regarding The Town’s tree program at 480-348-3527.

Coffee with a Cop

As the Director of Professional Development at Bark for Schools, an AI app safeguarding over 5 million kids on personal and school devices, her expertise was truly enlightening!

Customer Service Feedback - July

Customer service feedback for July is in! Responses show that across 98 responses, residents and customers reported a 91% happy index! Congratulations to our Community Development Counter and Finance Department for perfect scores!

Open feedback comments included "excellent work" at Town Hall, and "very polite" at Courts. We love to hear it!

Website feedback and responses fell short of our goals with 114 respondents indicating a happiness index of only 69%. We have some work to do to improve these ratings, including investigating/updating a broken link and making navigation more simplified.

As always, your feedback is appreciated!

Mitigating Monsoon Messes

The recent storm activity in Paradise Valley means dirt and storm debris are once again finding their way into gutters and washes/culverts around Town. Please work with your landscapers to check for and prevent any blockages for washes, culverts, weep holes, and/or retention basins on your property which can impede water flow and contribute to flooding.

Remember that over the last 10 years, some of our most damaging storms happened after the beginning of September.

For information on what is expected and/or to report an observed violation please contact Code Enforcement at our Town Website, https://www.paradisevalleyaz.gov/RequestTracker.aspx so that we can assist in taking appropriate action for the safety, cleanliness, and beautification of our Town.
