The sun shone on our parade, and smiles were wide all around! After two years without any events, it was a breath of fresh air to see all those familiar (and new) faces out enjoying their community once again!
A huge thank you to the many volunteers who helped make the day happen, especially the Family Day Committee members who were a powerhouse of dedication and inspiration - Jean Young, Rebecca Fenton, Brittany Marie Gagne, and Rob Junkala.
If you loved Family Day and would like to help organize the event next year please submit your interest via the button below.

The Town Participates in the 2022 Year of the Garden | |
When asked what makes Qualicum Beach unique, the beautiful flowers that flourish may well be mentioned! In keeping with this, the Town will participate in the national 2022 Year of the Garden, and in the Communities in Bloom initiative under the non-competitive Friendship category.
Family Day on May 29, kicked off the Town’s involvement in the national Year of the Garden with the theme ‘Qualicum Beach in Bloom”, where packets of seeds were handed out at the parade, and floats were colourfully decorated using the garden theme.
In addition, the Town has erected its Communities in Bloom signage on Memorial Avenue, visible when heading north from Rupert Road, displaying the various awards the Town has received throughout the years.
The next days of recognition will be “Garden Days” from June 11-19, and “National Garden Day” on June 18, where the Town will be launching its Summer planting season, including the iconic hanging baskets that line the uptown core.
Various other days throughout the year will showcase the Town’s offerings, including the recognition of the 75th anniversary of the Rotary of Qualicum Beach Sunrise Society, and the 75th anniversary of the Qualicum Beach Volunteer Fire Department, to be commemorated with plantings at the Rotary Friendship Garden.
Both public and private gardens in Qualicum Beach have been showcased for many years through the Communities in Bloom program that celebrates excellence in community pride and quality of life. The Town has been fortunate to have been awarded many prizes over the years and looks forward to bringing its beautiful community into focus once again in 2022.

Have you noticed the gulls in the Town of Qualicum Beach sporting some new accessories lately?
Environment and Climate Change Canada is conducting a 5-year project to help researchers understand how variations in diet and habitat influence the health of gulls wintering in the Salish Sea.
Researchers banded 183 adult and juvenile Glaucous-winged Gulls with colour leg bands to collect additional information on movements, habitat use, and site fidelity.
By reporting sightings of these banded gulls around Qualicum Beach, you can help researchers better understand Glaucous-winged Gulls in your area.

The old wooden stairs at the top of the Grandon Creek Trail are in the process of being replaced. Once removed, surveyors will help determine the best layout for the slope, and more durable stairs will be ordered, fabricated and installed.
The rest of the Grandon Creek Trail also remains closed until further notice after last years’ winter storms caused extensive damage and safety concerns. Damage assessments and repair options are being reviewed.
We look forward to reopening this unique and popular trail once again.
