Season's Greetings

As the Council of Qualicum Beach, we want to take this moment to send heartfelt wishes to you and your family for a safe and joyous festive season.

As the holiday season approaches, we are reminded of how much we have to be grateful for, and how fortunate we are to call Qualicum Beach our home.

This Christmas, let’s come together to spread kindness, generosity, and holiday cheer. Whether it’s lending a helping hand to a neighbour, supporting local businesses, or simply sharing a warm smile, every small act can make a difference.

Let’s also look out for one another, especially those who may need a little extra care this time of year. Check in with friends, reach out to those who might feel isolated, and embrace the spirit of giving.

May we step into 2025 with hope, optimism, and a shared energy to make Qualicum Beach an even better place for everyone who calls it home.

Your Town Council

2024 Volunteer Appreciation

Each year Council honours its community volunteers, but this year Council made two very special acknowledgements. Not only was the Above & Beyond award presented to the volunteer powerhouse Tom Whitfield, but a special recognition was also presented to Len and Marie Mustard for 25 years’ service as Town Criers.

The Volunteer Appreciation reception event is a highlight in Council’s calendar, and their opportunity to thank the many people who contribute to the community’s wellbeing through volunteerism, whether it be serving on Town Committees, Commissions, or broader community organizations.

Tom Whitfield, the 2024 Above and Beyond Award recipient, is a longtime resident and retired forester who exemplifies going ‘above and beyond’ for our community. Described as the “heart and soul of the Heritage Forest”, Tom can be found on any given day walking the forest, cheerfully watching over its grounds, observing its wildlife, or enthusiastically educating visitors.

Tom has served as President of the Brown Property Preservation Society since 2009, and a member of the Heritage Forest Commission since 2006, playing a vital role in protecting and maintaining the Heritage Forest. He was also instrumental in the success of the Town’s Beach Day celebrations for 10 years, ensuring the annual event celebrated both environmental stewardship and community spirit along the stunning Qualicum Beach waterfront.

The reception also provided the perfect opportunity to honour Len Mustard, a man whose voice has been at the heart of Qualicum Beach for 25 years. Since 1999, Len has served as our Town Crier, announcing news, opening events, and bringing a sense of tradition, pomp, and personality to our community. Always at his side has been his wife Marie, a steadfast consort who has added elegance and warmth to every occasion. Together, they have been an unmistakable and beloved sight at events, fundraisers, and celebrations.

The afternoon closed with a sincere thank you from Council, on behalf of the whole community saying, “Your generosity of time and spirit shines brightly, and we are profoundly grateful for the difference you make every day.”

The volunteer groups and Committee/Commission members honoured this year will be listed on the 2024 Volunteer Appreciation Recipients Award displayed in the Town Hall foyer, along with the Above and Beyond Volunteer Award plaque.

Snow & Ice Control in the Town

Get ready for when the wet stuff turns white with our Snow & Ice Control Guidelines.

As winter weather approaches, it's important to understand both your responsibilities and the Town's when it comes to snow removal. Learn which roads the Town prioritizes for snow clearing, and what you can expect when snow is on the ground.

Be Bear Aware

Please help keep bears and other wildlife safe by:

  • Only setting carts out between 5 - 8 am on your collection day
  • Removing carts from the curb after they have been collected
  • Storing carts in a secured location such as a garage or shed if possible.

When dealing with problem wildlife, early intervention is best. If you observe dangerous wildlife in your neighbourhood, please report through the BC Report All Poachers & Polluters (RAPP) hotline at 1-877-952-7277.

Chipping Completes

Chipping is now complete for 2024. Thanks to all who helped make the process

smooth!

Just a reminder to not place your branches out until the announcement of the Spring event. Placing materials on the boulevard outside of chipping times is not allowed and creates sight-line issues.
