January 2026

As we close the book on 2025 and welcome in 2026, we take this opportunity to reflect on the many highlights that made 2025 a remarkable year in Qualicum Beach!

A Year of Community Projects

2025 was undoubtedly one of the biggest years the Town has experienced in community planning and development. Here's some highlights:

  • Responding to Provincial Housing Legislation: The Town moved quickly to update zoning bylaws in response to major provincial policy shifts under Bills 44, 35, and 46.
  • Skatepark Reconstruction: Skaters young and old embraced the new inclusive recreational space with enthusiasm and gusto!
  • Kiwanis “Residences at Qualicum Station”: 56 affordable units were built by Kiwanis on Town-donated land, providing stable housing for seniors and lower-income residents.
  • Quality of Life Survey: Residents shared valuable feedback on satisfaction and priorities to help guide future policy and planning, especially for the OCP Review.
  • Official Community Plan (OCP) Review: Adopted in December 2025, the housing-focused review aligns with new provincial legislation and community housing needs.
  • Sustainable Economic Development Strategy: Work began on a long-term strategy to diversify local economic opportunities and support business vitality.
  • Qualicum Commons Lease: The Town entered into a lease with SD69, to ensure the site could continue to serve community needs and programming.
  • Eaglecrest Lands: A once-in-a-generation purchase of 105 acres, retaining the 9-hole golf course, preserving 40 acres for parkland, and converting 10 acres into thoughtfully planned housing.

A Year of Service & Innovation

  • Website Revamp: A new website redesign delivered improved navigation and service delivery.
  • MyTown Account Portal: A new online portal allows residents to conveniently access utility invoices and balances anytime.
  • IT Innovation Awards: Not one, but three awards went to the IT Department for its AI-assisted Public Inquiry System that routes and tracks residents’ communications.
  • 'Best of the Best' Water Award: The Town was recognized as “Best of the Best” for delivering high-quality drinking water at the BC Water & Waste Association Conference.

A Year of Building

We are proud to celebrate the many achievements that contributed to a safer, and more resilient community this year.

  • Seacrest Slope Stabilization: A major slope stabilization project was completed, ensuring long-term road and infrastructure safety for Eaglecrest residents.
  • Bay Street Stabilization: Slope and road repairs were completed this fall to reinforce this critical corridor.
  • Rupert Road Watermain Extension: Increased water capacity & improved system reliability was delivered to the Chartwell, Eaglecrest, and Sandpiper subdivisions.
  • Waterfront Expansion: Additional parking spaces and bicycle/pedestrian shoulders were created to facilitate safe active transportation along the waterfront.
  • Judges Row Stairs Replacement: The new aluminum stairs provide a safer, more accessible waterfront entry point for residents and visitors year-round.
  • Memorial & Fern Flashing Crosswalk: This crosswalk, with accessible features, enhanced safety for pedestrians and motorists at one of the busiest intersections in town.
  • Fern & Primrose Street Sidewalk Improvements: The new intersection layout aligns ramps with crosswalks, improves drainage, and provides safer, smoother access.

A Year of Gathering

Community spirit was on full display in 2025, with Family Day and Beach Day seeing strong participation from families, organizations, and volunteers.

At the Family Day event, Len Mustard provided his last official call as Town Crier after 26 years as a ceremonial presence at civic events.

Our annual Volunteer Appreciation Reception capped off the year, with representatives from over 120 local groups in Qualicum Beach joining for music, food and fun.
