We are excited to be hosting Beach Day for its 11th year on our beautiful waterfront! This full day of free activities has a focus on environmental awareness and runs from 12 pm to 4 pm, with something for everyone!

Activities include beach seining, beach games, touch tanks, marine displays, a skydiving exhibition, kite building, giant bubbles, sandcastle building, and mini putting!

The event will be kicked off by a welcome from Chief Michael Recalma and followed by stage entertainment, including Anela Kahiamoe (musician), Ian Johnstone (family entertainer), Qualicum Beach Pipe Band, belly dancing, and more.  



With plenty of food options available, and free shuttles running from the Berwick Retirement Community (11:30 am to 4:00 pm), this is set to be a full day of celebration with something for all ages!

The Town is set to embark on the Rupert Road Watermain Extension project on July 2, 2024. This critical infrastructure upgrade aims to enhance the resiliency and reliability of the water supply to the Chartwell, Eaglecrest and Sandpiper areas.

The looping of the water connection will facilitate the essential extension of fire hydrants to mitigate future wildfire risks in the area. Additionally, this project supports the clean water supply to the Sandpiper area within the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN).

Construction will take place along Rupert Road East, between Qualicum Road and the Qualicum Beach Airport. During construction, the speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/hr, with single-lane alternating traffic from 7 am to 5 pm on weekdays.

The project tender was awarded to IWC Excavation, with a bid price of $1,293,676 excluding GST. The cost of this project is covered in part by the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) through a $720,000 Electoral Area G Community Works Fund grant. The funding was provided in 2021 in return for the RDN’s French Creek Water Service Area (Sandpiper) receiving access to the Town’s water system. 

The project is expected to be completed by late October 2024.

Have you noticed the new addition to the waterfront? The Whale Tail installation is not only an eye-catching art piece but doubles as a seat to enjoy the view!

The structure, designed by local artist Jeff King, is constructed from solid concrete and chosen for its durability against the elements.

The anticipated completion of the Viewing Platform and Separated Walkway project is mid-July 2024. Stay tuned for more details!

Despite staff shortages, the Town's Parks crews are doing an amazing job colouring our Town with floral displays. From the Friendship Garden to street flower baskets and plantings, the crew’s efforts are always filled with love and passion.

This planting at the Friendship Garden will start to take shape soon. Can you guess what it will be?

Without a full complement of staff this summer, you may see areas we are unable to get to as quickly as we would like. Please bear with us as we do our best to keep our Town beautiful!

From May 15 until September 15 the watering of lawns and gardens is only permitted between the hours of 7pm and 7am daily. Hand watering is permitted at any time.
