Skatepark Ribbon Cutting - June 14 | |
All residents and visitors are invited to celebrate the official opening of the newly redeveloped skatepark!
Saturday, June 14,
11 am
Skatepark (behind the Civic Centre at 747 Jones Street)
All welcome!
This is a vital project that provides recreational amenities for youth and families in the community. In addition to a modernised skatepark, the project delivers broader improvements to the Community Park, including accessible pathways that link the Civic Centre parking lot and playing fields, as well as multipurpose seating for both the skatepark and nearby amenities.
The project was funded through a $1.2 million allocation from the Town’s Community Amenity Contributions and a grant under the Province of BC’s Growing Communities Fund. In addition, the Qualicum Beach Skaters contributed $130,000, which supported enhancements including coloured concrete and landscaping. Local contractors and suppliers also generously provided discounts and donations to help bring this vision to life.
“This skatepark is a win for youth, families, and the whole community,” said Mayor Westbroek. “It’s a project built with passion, teamwork, and true local spirit.”
“The opening of the Qualicum Beach Skatepark is the result of years of advocacy, fundraising, partnerships and community efforts”, says Lindsay Reed from the Qualicum Beach Skaters group. “QB Skaters is proud to have played a part, building on the work of those who came before us and alongside us. Skaters are excited to have a place that reflects their voice, creativity, and strength.”
All are invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, June 14, at 11:00 am to celebrate this exciting addition to Qualicum Beach.

| | Ocean Week - Marine Debris Surveying | |
To celebrate Ocean Week Canada, join us for a hands-on Marine Debris Survey at the Qualicum Beach waterfront. This is a great opportunity to protect our shoreline, learn about marine pollution, and be part of a global solution!
Thursday, June 5, 2025
10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Meet at the boat launch near the Shores Restaurant
The event will focus on identifying, collecting, and categorizing marine debris and microplastics. Data gathered will contribute to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Program (MDMAP), which supports international efforts to track coastal pollution and inform effective management practices.
The Town of Qualicum Beach is partnering with the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region Research Institute (MABRRI) to host the event during Ocean Week Canada - a national celebration of ocean knowledge, stewardship, and engagement.
| | Quality of Life Survey Results | |
The 2025 Quality of Life Survey reveals that a large majority of residents continue to view Qualicum Beach as a highly livable, safe, and well-serviced community.
The survey drew over 1,300 responses, with 92% of respondents rating their quality of life as good or excellent - exceeding the national benchmark.
Key Findings:
- 90% of respondents expressed satisfaction with Town services, including water service (96%), fire emergency response (95%), and parks maintenance (95%).
- 98% of respondents reported feeling safe.
- recreation received high ratings, including park trails (93%), and public beaches (91%).
While overall satisfaction was strong, the study highlights areas for continued improvement, including:
- Parking and community planning.
- Recreational amenities such as pickleball courts, track and field spaces, and aquatic facilities.
- Housing affordability, with 57% agreeing the Town is moving in the right direction on housing-related sustainability.
The Survey results will be used to support the 2025 Official Community Plan (OCP) review, and presented at the June 5 Open House (featured below).

| | Town Wins Water Taste Award | |
It's official! The Town has some of the best-tasting water around!
The Town recently won “Best of the Best” at the BC & Yukon Tap Water Taste Test, which was judged by appearance, aroma, taste, mouth feel, aftertaste, and overall impression.
Our sample, drawn straight from a residential tap, outshone entries from across the region - including cities with populations over 100,00 people. This award celebrates the incredible quality of our local aquifers and the great work of our Operations team.

There have been several recent bear sightings in the community. Please be aware and ensure that you help keep bears away with these simple steps:
- Place your waste carts out between 5-8 am on collection day.
- Lock your green waste bins to prevent foraging. It only takes one time to condition a bear to human garbage.
- Remove other attractants, such as uncleaned barbeques, bird feeders, pet food, and fruit on trees (or fallen on the ground).
