| | Street Banner Artwork Unveiling | | |
The Town's Street Banner unveiling event displayed the Town's new street banner artwork and celebrated the artists behind the pieces.
The artwork, chosen from 105 pieces, represents the uniqueness of our community, natural landscapes and community culture in Qualicum Beach. The banners will soon be on display throughout town, and will remain in place year round.

Jim Purdon will serve as the new Town Crier, with Mike Garland supporting as Alternate. Together, to carry on the longstanding tradition of bringing ceremony, storytelling, and a sense of occasion to community celebrations.
Jim Purdon, a long-time resident, brings extensive experience in storytelling, public speaking, and historical interpretation. For nearly two decades he served as a costumed interpreter for the Fort Langley National Historic Site, explaining the history of BC to audiences of up to 1,000 people with just the projection of his voice.
Jim has served as a past President of the Qualicum Beach Historical & Museum Society, where he continues to volunteer. He is also an active volunteer with the St. Andrews Lodge Cultural & Historical Society.
Alternate Town Crier Mike Garland has also had extensive experience public speaking, and is a community leader with much experience in public service and community engagement. He previously served as Executive Director of the Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce and an RCMP Auxiliary Constable. He is also an active member of the Town’s Beach Day Committee and volunteered for many years with Oceanside Community Safety, Parksville Lions Housing Society, and Oceanside RCMP.
The first appearance of the team took place at the Family Day Celebration on May 31, where Mike Garland led the Parade.
| | Eaglecrest Golf Course Restaurant Opens | | |
The Town is pleased to announce that the Eaglecrest Golf Course Restaurant has now officially reopened to the community after a ribbon cutting reception with Mayor and Council.
The newly renovated space, now operating as The Shack Taphouse, will welcome the public starting June 3. The restaurant offers a space for the community to gather and enjoy food and beverages while overlooking the Golf Course.
Over the past several months, the Town and the operator, Extreme Eatz Inc, have invested in upgrades to the Town-owned building, including kitchen equipment, restaurant and banquet hall furnishings, patio, and more. These enhancements have helped prepare the facility for long-term operation and community use.
“The reopening of this space is an exciting step forward for Eaglecrest Golf Course and the broader community,” said Mayor Teunis Westbroek. “We’ve heard from residents how important it is to have welcoming places to gather, connect, and enjoy shared experiences. We’re look forward to residents and visitors enjoying this space for years to come.”

The Town has received formal notice from the Oceanside Commons Society that it will not sign a sublease by June 1, 2026, to assume management of the Qualicum Commons. On May 21, 2026, the Society also advised the Town that it did not wish to receive the sublease for review and consideration.
As a result, the Town will renew the head lease with the Qualicum School District and, at the same time, provide one year’s notice that the tenancy will end on June 30, 2027, in order to maintain basic operations and give tenants time to secure alternative space.
After several weeks of discussion and exchange of documentation and proposals, Town Council felt optimistic that the intended next step was for the Society to sign a sublease and to assume management of the Commons. However, without owning the property, the Town does not have the funding or staff capacity required for the long-term operation of the facility, given the operational demands, failing building systems, and required capital repairs.
The Town will now remain solely responsible for the operation of the Commons between July 1, 2026, and June 30, 2027, and issue a one-year notice clause, ending the Town’s obligations on June 30, 2027. Unless urgent capital repairs are required, the Town’s intention is to maintain current operations and undertake minor repairs funded through tenant revenue.
Existing tenants will be offered the option to renew their licences for July 1, 2026, for a one-year term ending June 30, 2027, to allow time to secure alternate space for their operations. Council also directed staff to advise the Qualicum School District of its wish to further explore the potential acquisition of the Commons property as a long-term community hub.

Your Home Owner Grant must be claimed each year that you are eligible. All eligible homeowners must apply to the Province, either via:

Notice of Annual Report
The Annual Municipal Report will be available for inspection beginning June 10, 2026. It can be viewed online at qualicumbeach.com and at the Town Hall from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays).
Council will receive submissions and questions from the public regarding the Annual Report from June 10, 2026, until the start of the June 24, 2026, Council meeting.

Watering Restrictions
From May 15 until September 15 the watering of lawns and gardens will only be permitted between the hours of 7 pm and 7 am daily.
Hand watering is permitted at any time.
