Family Day Celebration - May 31

Get ready for a full day of fun at the Qualicum Beach Family Day Celebration on May 31!

The festivities kick off with a pancake breakfast at 8:30 am at the Civic Centre, followed by a lively street parade down Second Avenue at noon. From 1-4 pm, the action moves to the Community Park, where all ages can enjoy a wide range of activities, food, and entertainment.

Highlights of this year’s event include a skydive exhibition, climbing wall, Live Action Role-Playing (LARP), petting zoo, and dog agility. Kids will also love the 13 bounce houses, scavenger hunt, face painting, and activities found at each exhibit.

The main stage will be buzzing with all-day performances by talented local artists and community groups. The festivities will come to a close with a free swim from 4-7 pm at Ravensong Aquatic Centre.

This is a day that brings people together and creates community memories. So mark your calendars and join us for a day filled with fun for all ages and abilities.

Eaglecrest Re-Visioning Updates

Over the last months the Eaglecrest Re-visioning has been moving along to create a thriving community asset. Here’s a summary of some of the more recent developments.

Neighbourhood Planning Engagement

Through surveys, small group sessions, and open house events, residents were able to share ideas about neighbourhood character, green space connections, and how future development could fit with the surrounding community. They also provided parcel-specific input on Country Club Drive parcels. This feedback will inform the Preliminary Neighbourhood Plan, which will help guide future decision-making.

Next steps will see the Preliminary Plan go to Council this month, and then a Request for Proposals will be issued for developers to submit their proposals for the land on Country Club Drive, based on parameters set by the Town. Read more.

Golf Course Maintenance Contract

A short-term maintenance contract has been awarded to Extreme Eatz Restaurant Inc, while the long-term course operations agreement is in progress.

The contract will ensure the maintenance of the land, as well as the mowing and debris removal of the adjacent parkland. The month-to-month contract is valued at $32,000/month to a maximum of $136,000, including contingency for unseen costs. Read more.

Land for Sale

As part of the Eaglecrest Re-visioning project, the Town is offering select Town-owned parcels in the Eaglecrest neighbourhood for sale. These land sales are part of the Town’s financing strategy to support the purchase of the Eaglecrest Golf Course Lands without impact to taxation, while balancing long-term community priorities such as recreation, housing, environmental protection, and public access.

Expressions of interest are now being accepted for the purchase of a 0.35 hectare (0.86 acre) parcel of land located on Blind Bogey Drive and backing onto covenant-protected parkland. The land is zoned R1, and permits a range of low-density housing.

Interested parties are invited to submit offers for the parcel, either in its entirety or as individual lots, to the Town by June 5, 2026. Full details and FAQ’s are available at qualicumbeach.com/eaglecrest_landsales

Qualicum Commons Update

undefined

"We thank the community for its ongoing patience as conversations between the Town and the Qualicum School District continue. We are exploring possible options to support community access to the Qualicum Commons, knowing the importance of the services provided. At the same time, we continue to assess the impacts of the building’s system failures, and the ongoing management requirements of the building as a whole.

There are a lot of complexities involved in exploring solutions that work for all parties, especially because the Town does not own the building. We recognize the time-sensitive nature of this matter and want to assure everyone that efforts continue."

Teunis Westbroek

Mayor, Town of Qualicum Beach
