Qualicum Commons Collaboration

The Qualicum School District and the Town of Qualicum Beach are pleased to announce a new collaborative effort to explore long-term solutions for the Qualicum Commons property.

Qualicum Commons, formerly the Qualicum Beach Elementary School, has long been a vital part of Qualicum Beach, serving as a hub for many valuable activities and services. Recognizing its significance, both the School District and the Town want to ensure that the property continues to benefit the community in meaningful ways.

The Town and School District also recognize the importance of essential services hosted at the site, which include educational programs, recreational activities, and support services. The goal is to maintain and enhance these offerings while exploring long-term solutions to ensure the site remains a vibrant and accessible community resource.

Details of the collaboration will be released as more information becomes available, with both parties committed to transparency and to keeping the community informed throughout the process.

Fire Skid Donation

The Town’s wildfire response capacity has just received a significant boost - at absolutely no cost to the Town! The new Fire Skid was generously donated by GlobalMedic as part of their Canadian Fire Fighting Skid Donation Program. The Fire Skid allows the Town to transform a pickup truck into a small fire truck, equipped with a 1,000-litre water tank, pump, and hoses.

GlobalMedic is a Toronto-based registered Canadian charity known for its capacity-building programs and disaster relief efforts both globally and in Canada. This donation significantly strengthens our local fire-fighting capabilities.

Beach Creek Culvert Replacement

The Beach Creek Culvert Replacement project is progressing well!

The new box culvert is in place with stream flow continuing through a bypass until the new creek channels are completed. The upstream retaining wall is also finished, and work is underway on the downstream side.

Cobble has been added inside the culvert to enhance fish habitat, and the sewer line above the culvert is now covered. The photo shows the retaining wall and culvert inlet, with concrete manhole rings acting as an overflow to prevent flooding.

The project is progressing well and is on schedule for completion in October 2024.
