Dear friends, neighbors, residents,
At the last town board meeting, the Town Board determined that it would be in the best interest of the public if we annexed five parcels of land in Tymor Park, owned by Union Vale but located in the town of Beekman. Under General Municipal Law, Article 17, known as "Municipal Annexation Law", section 701, defines "Annexation" as
"An alteration of the boundaries of a county, city, town or village which has the effect of adding territory to it."
For those of you who may not be aware of this discussion and missed the public hearing in November, we feel (it was a unanimous vote) that due to past circumstances and future responsibilities, Union Vale needs to be in full control of all the lands entrusted to us and owned by the town.
The Public Hearing
Prior to this most recent vote, we listened to the comments at the joint public hearing in November. The Beekman residents, primarily those who live near DeForest Lane, commented mostly about not wanting a cell tower and not about annexation. Few Union Vale residents spoke, but those with unique historical perspectives shared poignant stories we had not heard before. Those comments helped inform and support our decision.
In a Nut Shell
While Annexation is done in the State of NY, it is not done often. The "Public Interest Resolution" attached below puts forth our reasoning in more detail. We are taking this very decisive move now, and hope we will prevail, for the benefit of Union Vale, for Tymor Park and for our residents, present and future.
