Town Council Supports Bay Du Nord
The Town of Conception Bay South is supporting the oil and gas industry in Newfoundland and Labrador, with Council passing a resolution at the public meeting on March 15, 2022 to support the Bay Du Nord project, noting its critical importance to the province’s economic stability.
“Bay du Nord will create jobs for our people, increase supply opportunities for our businesses, and positively impact our local economy by helping the province meet global demand for responsible oil while also supporting the provincial government’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050. Council is very cognizant of the importance of environmental sustainability and is very encouraged that Bay du Nord has the potential to produce the lowest carbon barrels of oil in Canada,” said Mayor Darrin Bent.
The Town of Conception Bay South is the second-largest municipality in the province and remains one of the fastest growing communities. Close to offshore developments, land blocks, major amenities and infrastructure, the town and its expansive bay are perfectly positioned to support and foster industry growth in the oil and gas sector. Town Council has a strong mandate for economic development with a goal of growing its commercial tax base to alleviate financial pressures on its taxpayers and improve services for residents.
