Rendering of the MURC
Town moves forward with construction of Multi-use Recreation Complex
The Town of Georgina is moving forward with the largest project in its history – construction of the Multi-use Recreation Complex (MURC). On June 23, 2021, Council approved the full build which will include a Discovery Library branch. Construction of the MURC is anticipated to begin in September 2021 with completion and the facility open for use expected in fall of 2023. Visit georgina.ca/MURC to learn more.

Province’s Maple Lake Estates decision
On June 16, a landmark decision was announced by the province of Ontario to add 360 hectares of privately owned lands – known as Maple Lake Estates – to the stewardship of the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority. The decision means these significant wetlands, to the west and south of Woodbine Avenue and Metro Road North, will be protected from development. Read Mayor Margaret Quirk’s statement.

The 2020 Community Snapshot is here! This annual publication highlights the progress made on our strategic goals. From moving services and Council meetings online to a new drone for Georgina Fire and 122 businesses supported through Economic Recovery Team programs, 2020 brought tremendous change to our community.
Playground improvements
Young’s Harbour Park and Glenwoods Park have reopened following the installation of new playground equipment. The updates to the parks include new safety surfaces, new playground equipment, access ramps and new curbing. The ROC Park now includes the Town’s first accessible swing, along with new play equipment, safety surfacing and a new AODA compliant walkway and access to the
wheelchair swing. Work continues at the Sutton Multi-use Complex and it is anticipated to reopen this summer.

Streetscape Program
Did you know the Town is working on design standards that will look at ways to improve streetscapes in Business Improvement Areas in Keswick, Pefferlaw, Jackson’s Point and Sutton? The Town is preparing streetscape design standards that can be implemented when opportunities arise and as financial resources become available. These design standards address the need to create attractive streetscapes that can accommodate safe vehicular, cycling and pedestrian movements. Comments are due by July 16.

Georgina COVID-19 vaccination clinic
The vaccination clinic is located at the Georgina Ice Palace, 90 Wexford Dr. All individuals 12+ who live, work or go to school in York Region are now eligible to book their second dose or an earlier second dose by visiting york.ca/covid19vaccine. If you need assistance booking, call 1-877-464-9675.

Town's waterfront parks and beaches open
Georgina’s beaches and waterfront parks are open with restrictions. Please remember – barbeques or other cooking devices are not allowed on the beach or in the parks. Visit georgina.ca/beaches for information on the restrictions at the beaches.

Parking lots are available to both resident parking pass holders and non-residents. As of July 1, residents must have a 2021 resident parking pass to park for free in the resident parking lot. For those without a pass, pay-and-display machines are operating.

Georgina residents can get a 2021 parking pass on site at De La Salle Beach, Holmes Point and Willow Beach, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Residents will need to show their driver’s licence, or proof of residency, and provide their licence plate number. Only one parking pass will be issued per vehicle on site. 
ROC Splash Pad
Splash pads open
Looking for a place to take the kids and cool off? Town splash pads are open. You can enjoy them from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The Town has three splash pads – the ROC, Whipper Watson Park and Const. Garrett Styles Park. 
Camp Fire. Burn permits online.
Open-air burn permits available online
Permit applications for agricultural and open-air burn permits are available online. The permit fee is $35 for the calendar year. Residents can have recreational fires to roast marshmallows and hot dogs, and these fires do not require a permit. They must be no larger than 2’ x 2’ and be at least 23’ away from anything that can burn as well as property lines.

The Town of Georgina is holding virtual Council meetings. These meetings will be broadcast as usual through the Town’s live streaming tool.

Outdoor recreation programs
Join our recreation staff at a local park near you for some summertime fun at one of our Kids Park Programs. These are workshop style and include classic camp games, adventures, challenges, and arts and crafts. See additional information in the description of each program date to select locations and daily themes. Cost is $12 per child, per workshop. Drop-ins will not be accepted.

Summer Camps
In partnership with the Town of Georgina, Jericho Youth Services is offering summer camps at two locations – the ROC and Sutton Arena Hall. The cost is $110/week for ages 6 to 13. Before and after care is also available. There are outdoor sports, arts and crafts, science experiments, health and wellness, and more.
Waste and Recycling
Waste and Recycling
The Town has waived the requirement for bag tags until further notice. The bag limit of five bags/items remains in place. Latex gloves and masks go in the garbage lined with a plastic bag. They do not go in recycling. If you have questions, contact customer service at 905-476-4301 or GFL at 1-866-421-5625. Yard waste pickup has started and runs every other week until Nov. 29.

TD Summer Reading Club
Registration for Georgina Public Library’s virtual TD Summer Reading Club is open. There are challenges for readers of all ages, as well as prize draws throughout the summer. Log your reading online for a chance to win. From hand puppet kits to life skills classes for tweens and teens, there are many virtual programs for your family to attend at the Library in July and August.
