Town of Orangetown Update
|
|
We are nearing the end of week five of extreme measures of social distancing - school buildings, gyms, nail and hair salons, department stores, shopping malls, barber shops, libraries, furniture stores, etc....have had their doors closed and our delis, restaurants and pizzerias have had to resort to deliveries, curbside pickups or temporarily closing. Thankfully, our supermarkets, pharmacies and grocery stores remain open.
Thank you to everyone for putting your best foot forward - we are in this together!

Town of Orangetown Virtual 5K
|
Not sure how many of have heard, but The Town of Orangetown and Supervisor Teresa Kenny have come up with a fun and interesting fundraiser in these tough and trying times.
We've arranged a Virtual 5K Race, to be completed between May 1st and May 17th.
What's unique about this event is that participants can run (or walk) the 5K on any route and time of their choice within the specified time frame.
Run/walk with friends if you wish - just observe stipulated Social Distancing Rules.
For those who don't want to participate in the event, there is an opportunity to be a part of this event otherwise. For a $ 100 donation, you'll get your name (personal or business) printed on the back of the t-shirt which will be supplied to all participants.
And most importantly all net proceeds will go towards keeping our food pantries fully stocked for the many families who need some help at this time. We really appreciated any help you can give us with this fundraiser. Thank you.

At first, she was a ball of energy but she quickly settled in and now, three years later, she is one of the family! She is a loving, sweet girl and the Kenny family cannot imagine life without her! Adopt don’t shop!

Earth Day
A huge shout out to Deborah Stuhlweissenburg, Don Lennon and Billy Jolly for cleaning up our streets and exit/entrance ramps of the Palisades Parkway. The above pictures are just a few of the bags they have collected over these last couple of weeks. If everyone could grab a bag when they go for a walk, and pick up just a small amount of litter, collectively the streets of Orangetown will be that much cleaner.
History of Earth Day:
Earth Day is widely recognized as the largest secular observance in the world, marked by more than a billion people every year as a day of action to change human behavior and create global, national and local policy changes.
Now, the fight for a clean environment continues with increasing urgency, as the ravages of climate change become more and more apparent every day.
As the awareness of our climate crisis grows, so does civil society mobilization, which is reaching a fever pitch across the globe today. Disillusioned by the low level of ambition following the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015 and frustrated with international environmental lethargy, citizens of the world are rising up to demand far greater action for our planet and its people.
The social and cultural environments we saw in 1970 are rising up again today — a fresh and frustrated generation of young people are refusing to settle for platitudes, instead taking to the streets by the millions to demand a new way forward. Digital and social media are bringing these conversations, protests, strikes and mobilizations to a global audience, uniting a concerned citizenry as never before and catalyzing generations to join together to take on the greatest challenge that humankind has faced.
2020 marks the
50th anniversary of Earth Day
. In honor of this milestone, Earth Day Network is launching an ambitious set of goals to shape the future of 21st century environmentalism

Rebus Puzzles - how good are you? First Rebus is for children and the second one is for adults!
|
REBUS STRATEGIES
Here are a few things to look for when solving this type of puzzle:
1. Word position.
If a word is over or under another word, or if one word is within another word, then that probably has something to do with the solution.
2. Color.
If a word is a different color than the others (or even just a different color from black) that might be a clue.
3. Size.
If the word is unusually large or small.
4. Quantity.
If a word or letter is repeated, then there is a probably a number involved in the solution.

I hope you found this newsletter not only informative, but entertaining as well. We want you all to know that we are hard at work during this pandemic and are only a phone call away, should you need us.
When we come through this pandemic, we would like to acknowledge, honor and remember EVERYONE who worked on the front lines to help Orangetown through these terrible days.
We are in the "talking" stages of putting together a parade to celebrate all. We already have an established parade route in town and hopefully it would help ease the pain of not having our annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade or the Memorial Day Parades. Stay tuned!
