Freedom Fest
Join us for our 5th Annual Freedom Fest Celebration! Fun for all ages is planned with live music, a family beer garden, and free carnival-style games and activities. Eat at one of the food truck options below. Bounce all evening with 6 different style houses to choose from, celebrate with festive face painting and light up accessories for purchase. Touch-a-Truck
Join us for our 3rd Annual Touch-a-Truck Event. Children can climb into the driver's seat, honk the horns, and learn about the machines that keep our community moving! This event will be sensory friendly with no sirens or horns from 11 AM - 12 PM. The St. John Volunteer Fire Department will be firing up the grill to serve hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and a drink. Park Hours & Lighting
All Town parks are open to the public from 6 AM - 10 PM daily unless otherwise posted or when participating in a department or town sanctioned event.
Sports lighting is operational at The Gates Skatepark and Pickleball Courts. Lights are activated Sunday - Thursday from sundown until 9 PM and Friday - Saturday from sundown until 10 PM.

2026 Town-Wide Paving
Milestone Contractors continues making progress on the town-wide paving project. Crews have completed paving on Louis Ct, Louis Dr, Ditola Ct, Knickerbocker St, and Belmont Ave. Work is expected to be complete before the beginning of next school year, weather dependent.

Kilkenny Water Tank Altitude Valve
This project consists of the construction of a new building and installation of a new altitude valve at the Kilkenny Water Tower. The new valve will give the water department better control of pressure and circulation on the west side of Town. Underground construction is complete, and work has started on the building. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July.

Osage Drive Culvert Repair
The Osage Drive Culvert Repair Project consists of the lining of four large diameter storm sewer culvert pipes under Osage Drive and W 81st Court. The pipes will be internally lined to avoid needing to dig up the roads and disturb traffic. The lining will take place this month and is expected to take less than one week to complete.

Hedwig & Fehlberg Intersection Improvement
An engineering study is underway to determine the most cost-effective solution for correcting poor drainage at this intersection of Hedwig Dr. & Fehlberg Ct., and the standing water and ice around the curve on Hedwig Drive. Construction is expected to take place this summer pending the results of the study.

Joliet Street Multi-Use Path Project
The Town Council awarded a contract to Dyer Construction as the lowest, most responsive and responsible bidder in the amount of $3,383,878.43 at their April 22nd meeting. A resident meeting for those who live along Joliet Street is scheduled for June 5th at 2 PM at the Town Hall. This meeting will provide an opportunity for residents to learn what to expect as construction is underway. Dyer Construction is scheduled to begin work this month, weather dependent.

The Gates Pavilion & Permanent Restrooms
Permanent restroom facilities and a pavilion are coming to The Gates Park (10201 Park Pl, St. John, IN)! Last week Colvin Masonry finished building the interior and exterior block walls of the building. This week, Grimmer Construction began setting the wood beams and trusses on the building. Over the next 2 weeks, the metal roof will begin getting installed while the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing inside the building gets underway. Completion is anticipated this fall. While the project is underway, the park, including the playground and pickleball courts, will remain open with minimal disruption expected. We kindly ask all visitors to use caution and be mindful of construction activity while enjoying the park.

Heartland Park Expansion Project
The Heartland Park Expansion Project is set to transform 40 acres at the corner of White Oak Avenue and 109th Avenue into a vibrant community destination.
Plans for this exciting development include:
- An amphitheater with a stage and covered seating for large-scale events
- Multipurpose spaces and an open-air pavilion
- Indoor community rooms for year-round use
- A destination-style splash pad featuring slides, climbing structures, vertical water features, dry play zones, and a re-circulating water system
Building and amphitheater foundations have started. Site utility work is also underway with water main work and site storm utilities going in. Structural masonry, steel erection, and site electric will be starting in June.

White Oak & 109th Roundabout
Engineers are completing the design of the roundabout. Utility relocation is expected to begin this summer and road construction is expected to begin in the Spring of 2027 pending the status of utility relocations and right-of-way acquisition.

Park Pavilion Rentals
Park pavilions are available for rental at Veteran's Civic Park, Homestead Acres Park, Prairie West Park, Schillton Hills Park, and Larimer Park from 9 AM - 9 PM daily. These are a perfect outdoor space for birthday parties, baby showers, family gatherings, reunions, and more. To reserve a pavilion, please submit your request through Rec Desk.

Golf Cart Registration
Interested residents must complete a registration form and pay a $50 annual fee expiring December 31st. Payment will be accepted, in person only, at the Clerk-Treasurer's office. All drivers must adhere to the rules and regulations found in Ordinance 1828.

- Any individual seeking to operate a golf cart on public streets, roads, and alleys in Town shall be a licensed driver under applicable Indiana Law.
- Usage and operation of golf carts shall be restricted to the public streets, roads, and alleys in residential neighborhoods and communities in the Town.
- Golf carts are not allowed to be on any bike or walking path within the Town.
- No golf carts shall be used or operated on any public streets, roads, or alleys within the Town in which the speed limit is more than 25 mph or wherever the prohibition of the use of golf carts is posted.
- Golf carts shall operate and be used at a maximum speed of 25 mph.

Wiggley Field Dog Park
Annual membership is now available for Wiggley Field Dog Park. The fee is $25 for St. John residents and $10 per additional dog. Payment can be made in person at the Clerk-Treasurer's office or you can enroll online at Dog Park Membership. A 2026 pet tag, current rabies and distemper are required.

Faith in Action Nights
Come out to a free skatepark night at The Gates Skatepark on Friday, June 5th and Friday, June 19th at 6 PM. Testimony Skate Ministry is dedicated to serving, encouraging, and uplifting the action-sports community. You will clean the park together, share a short devotional, and skate as a crew to create a space where everyone can grown in community, faith, and action sports.

Heron Lake Splash Pad
The Heron Lake Splash Pad is NOW OPEN from 9 AM to 6 PM daily through Labor Day. The facility may be closed at any time due to weather, maintenance, or other operational concerns. There is a red activation bollard with a button; when pushed, it will trigger the water to run in a 5-minute cycle. Simply touch the bollard again for more fun. The use of the Splash Pad is free and located at 11960 Osage Drive at Heron Lake Park.

Beginner Swim Lessons
Trust the leader in swim, Patti's All-American, to teach your child how to swim while learning essential water safety skills. During these small group swim lessons (4-1 student-to-teacher ratio), participants will learn basic swimming skills, going underwater, front floating and back floating, kicking, back gliding, and becoming comfortable face down in the water. Pool is heated! All participants must be independent of their parents while in the water and at least 3 feet tall to touch the bottom of the pool. K-Pop Anime Young Rembrandts
This exciting K-Pop Anime Drawing Workshop is bursting with creative star power. Participants will learn how to draw anime characters in a fun K-Pop style. Game On Bricks 4 Kidz Workshop
In this workshop, popular themes like Super Mario Bros, Roblox, Beyblades, Pokemon, and Minecraft will come to life through robots, mosaics, and 3D builds. Young Rembrandts
Young Rembrandts is designed to teach basic to advanced drawing skills, art techniques & vocabulary. Classes will increase your child's art abilities, learning skills, self-confidence, and self-esteem while learning about design, composition, and illustration using their unique step-by-step drawing method. Bricks 4 Kidz
Participants will build motorized models designed using LEGO Technic Bricks. Your child will put their STEM education into practice by getting hands-on exposure to STEM concepts that strengthen and reinforce what they are already learning in school. BLAST Babysitting Class
This interactive class provides extensive training in pediatric first aid, household safety, and the fundamentals of childcare. This program can prepare 11-15 year olds to interview for a babysitting job, select safe and suitable games and activities, prevent accidents, perform first aid, and begin babysitting safely and competently. Kolache & Pizza
Join Marilyn's Bakery for a fun and interactive baking class. Each child will make their own individual pizza using homemade dough, sauce, and toppings. While the pizzas bake, the children will learn how to pipe filling and fold their own kolache to take home. Register in person at the Clerk-Treasurer's office or online at Rec Desk.

Culinary Camp
Calling all young chefs. This 6-week cooking camp will teach kids basic cooking skills while creating delicious meals and tasty treats. Park Program Registrations
Register for park programs, events, and memberships, reserve the Community Center or park pavilions, and more. Simply visit Rec Desk where you will be prompted to create a parent account and then you can add other household members. The Clerk-Treasurer's office is happy to welcome you in person to register for park programs, etc. if that is your preference. If you have any questions as you complete the registration, please contact the Parks Department at 219-365-6236.

Town Service Requests
The St. John Public Works Department offers an easy way to report non-emergency service requests to the Town. Types of requests may include park damage, restroom attention, road maintenance, street light outages and more. Please complete the Service Request form which will then be forwarded to the appropriate department for a response and/or follow-up. For emergencies and anyone who needs police or fire assistance, no matter how minor, please call 911.

Town Dumpster
The Town has a dumpster available for St. John residents only. It is available the second Saturday of each month from 9 AM - 1 PM. It will be available on June 13th this month. Please go to the Public Safety building & present a state of Indiana ID for access. The following items cannot be accepted: batteries, cleaning solvents, combustible liquids, freon canisters, motor oil, paint, railroad ties, roofing shingles, tires, construction debris (asphalt, bricks, concrete, dirt, drywall, sand, yard waste) appliances & hazardous materials.

Hazardous Waste
The Lake County Solid Waste Management District will be holding a Household Hazardous Waste Collection on Wednesday, June 17th from 2 PM-6 PM at Lowell Middle School located at 19250 Cline Ave, Lowell, IN. Proof of Lake County, Indiana residency will be required. There is a limit of 100 pounds per household and latex paint is not accepted. Paper shredding will also be available. Please visit Lake County Solid Waste Management for more information and a list of what items can and cannot be accepted.
