Mayor Sarah Franklin Visits Annapolis

Back in January, Upper Marlboro Mayor Sarah Franklin visited Annapolis to meet with the Town's Delegation to discuss funding for Phases 2 & 3 of the Upper Marlboro Community playground. Pictured is the Mayor with the Town's State Senator Ron Watson.

MD Rt. 4 & Ritchie Marlboro Rd Ramp Closure:

Maryland State Highway Administration has closed the westbound ramp on MD 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue) to northbound Ritchie Marlboro Road to make emergency repairs on the ramp caused by a slope failure along the right shoulder. The ramp was closed back in early February, and will most likely remain closed for a few months as crews work out a plan to stabilize the slope, fill in the void, and ensure the roadway is structurally sound.

CHARLES COLBERT ELECTED NEW COMMISSIONER

IN THE TOWN OF UPPER MARLBORO

Town Board Had Voted Last Year to Expand from Three to Five Members

UPPER MARLBORO, MD (Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022) – For the first time in its 326-year history, the Town of Upper Marlboro will now have five members on its governing Board of Commissioners. In a special election held today, Town voters elected Prince George’s County native Charles Colbert to serve on the board. Colbert was one of three candidates seeking to occupy a vacant seat on the panel.

Colbert will be the first African American man to sit on the Town’s Board of Commissioners.

Upper Marlboro Town Clerk John Hoatson announced the final election results shortly before 9 p.m. tonight.

Charles Colbert: 39

Derrick Brooks: 20

Robert Barber: 5

Profiles and photos of the three candidates can be found at this link:

Colbert will join current Commissioners Sarah Franklin (Mayor/President), Janice Duckett, Thomas J. Hanchett, and Karen Lott on the five-member governing body.

Last August, the three-member Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a resolution that increased the composition of the Town's elected body from three to five members, consisting of four Commissioners and one President/Mayor. A special election was scheduled for today after one of the five Commissioners elected last November, former Mayor Linda Pennoyer, chose not to be sworn in, thus creating the board vacancy.
