Hello Windsor!
As the crisp air begins to settle in and the leaves slowly turn to brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold, soon we will officially welcome the first day of fall here in our beautiful Town. Fall is a time when our community comes alive with seasonal traditions — from local harvest festivals and farmers’ market events to WHS homecoming and evenings spent with family and friends. This season also brings important reminders.
-
Street and leaf maintenance will begin soon — please beware of Town workers during your local travels.
-
School is back in session, so please be extra cautious while driving, especially in school zones and neighborhoods.
-
Fire season is still not over, so Know Your Zone and have a go bag ready.
As Town Manager, I remain committed to ensuring that our Town remains a safe, welcoming, and vibrant place to live, work, and visit. I look forward to seeing many of you out and about this season, enjoying all that fall has to offer.

Town of Windsor Achieves 100% Wastewater Recycling Milestone,
Achieving Another Pillar in the Town’s NetZero Program
| | | | Since 2019, the Town of Windsor has been working diligently toward its long-term sustainability goal of achieving net-zero status at the Water Reclamation Facility. With the recent completion of the interconnection and ALWSZ wastewater system consolidation with Sonoma Water in July, the Town has reached a major milestone: 100% of the community’s wastewater is now recycled and beneficially reused. This water is used to irrigate our parks, public spaces, and golf courses, as well as for power generation at the Geysers Power Generation Facility, effectively eliminating wastewater discharges into Mark West Creek and the Russian River Basin. | | PROTECTING WINDSOR'S OAKS | | |
Mediterranean Oak Borer Update
The Town of Windsor continues its efforts to protect and preserve the community’s heritage oaks from the invasive Mediterranean Oak Borer (MOB) beetle. The recently discovered beetle infests oak trees (mainly valley oak, blue oak, and Oregon white oak), initially attacking branches before potentially killing the tree as it moves into the trunk.
| | | | |
Since the first detection, the Town has been implementing a multi-step response to slow the infestation, protect vulnerable trees, and remove or treat infested trees. Key actions include:
- Removing trees confirmed to be infested (along Conde Lane, Windsor River Road, Hembree Lane, Town Hall, Keiser Park, David Smith Memorial Park, and Vintage Oaks Park.
- Pruning trees showing early signs of infestation.
- Adopting an emergency ordinance to allow tree mitigation fees to fund emergency MOB treatment of heritage oaks on Town property.
- Conducting injection treatment in early 2024 on infested or vulnerable trees
| | |
A second round of injection treatments is planned for fall 2025 to help further protect remaining vulnerable trees from MOB. In addition, the Town will continue conducting tree assessments, pruning, and selective removals in public spaces as needed to maintain tree health and public safety.
These actions are part of ongoing efforts to protect the public, reduce risk, and preserve as many trees as possible. Our staff will continue to work closely with leading pest management experts to monitor the situation, implement best practices, and safeguard Windsor’s heritage oaks for years to come.
What to do if you believe your tree is infested with MOB? How can you help prevent/slow the rate of MOB infestation? Visit our website to learn more: https://www.townofwindsor.ca.gov/388/Tree-Protection.
