Official ballot drop box installed on campus

Ahead of the upcoming elections, the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder’s Office has installed an official ballot drop box permanently on campus to encourage more college students to vote. The drop box is located near Lot 4, across from the Career Center. All registered Los Angeles County voters can drop off their vote-by-mail ballots in the box. No postage is needed. The box is designed to meet all security features required by the California Secretary of State. Visit the Cal State LA Vote Center webpage for voting information.

Townhall gathering hosted by Cal State LA President

President Berenecea Johnson Eanes welcomes faculty, staff, and students to attend a townhall gathering on Thursday, March 7, from 3 to 5 p.m., in the Golden Eagle Ballroom. As part of her 100 Days of Listening, the University community is invited to share their thoughts with President Eanes, in order to better acquaint her with Cal State LA and the University’s students, faculty and staff. To accommodate anyone who might not be able to join in person, the event will also be accessible online via Zoom. The Zoom link will be available on the event webpage the day of the townhall gathering. Please confirm your participation by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 4. Black Alumni Network Mixer open to campus community

In celebration of Black History Month, Cal State LA will host a Black Alumni Network Mixer on Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., in the Golden Eagle Ballroom. Join the Alumni Association for an evening of conversations, networking, and fun. The mixer is open to alumni, current students, staff, faculty, and community members. A new senior investigator for Title IX reports, related claims

Cal State LA has recently hired Attorney Mina Poppius to serve as senior investigator to assist in investigating reports related to Title IX, as well as claims of discrimination, harassment and retaliation pertaining to legally protected status. Mina is admitted to practice law before the California Bar and was previously a prosecutor specializing in serious sexual crimes and stalking in Edinburgh, Scotland. Mina also worked in disability rights advocacy at Learning Rights Law Center in Los Angeles. Visit the Title IX Review webpage for more information.

Professor Howard Xu to deliver President’s Distinguished Professor Lecture

Professor Howard Xu, recipient of Cal State LA’s 2023 President’s Distinguished Professor Award, will deliver a special lecture on Tuesday, March 5, at 1:45 p.m., in the Golden Eagle Ballroom. Xu is a professor of microbiology in the College of Natural and Social Sciences. The title of his lecture is “My Biotech Journey: Research, Education, and Entrepreneurship.” Please RSVP by 5 p.m. on Feb. 28. Commencement ceremonies to take place May 20-21

Mark your calendars! Cal State LA will celebrate thousands of graduating students in the Class of 2024 at Commencement on May 20-21. The six college-based ceremonies will be held in the West Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center. Graduating students will have their names called while crossing the stage. The detailed schedule is posted on the Commencement website.

Vet Net Ally seminar offered on Feb. 23

The Veterans Resource Center invites faculty, staff, and administrators to attend its Vet Net Ally seminar, an education and awareness program designed to develop a network of campus supporters for students who are connected to the military. There will be a seminar offered on Friday, Feb. 23, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. For details and to sign up, visit Vet Net Ally webpage.

Dreamers Resource Center offers virtual UndocuAlly training

The Erika J. Glazer Family Dreamers Resource Center is offering a virtual training workshop that will prepare faculty and staff to be allies for undocumented students. Register online for the training on Thursday, Feb. 29, from 3 to 4 p.m. To sign up, complete the UndocuAlly training registration form.

Income tax filing services offered by Cal State LA VITA

The College of Business and Economics' Department of Accounting, in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service, is offering Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) to low- and moderate-income individuals. Free tax preparation services will be offered at Cal State LA, the Cypress Park Branch Library, the Lincoln Heights Regional Library, the El Sereno Branch Library, the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library, and at Young & Healthy, a Pasadena-based nonprofit organization. The free VITA program will run each Saturday through April 13.

The web publication showcases professional activities and publications, as well as the awards received by our faculty and staff. Counseling services available for campus community

Employees may find counseling assistance through the Employee Assistance Program, LifeMatters, by calling 1-800-367-7474 or visiting the LifeMatters website. Cal State LA’s company password is GOEAGLES. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides services to students throughout the summer. Counselors will be available to address issues such as anxiety management, emotional wellness, mindfulness, and more. For details, call 323-343-3314 or visit the CAPS website.
