| Urban Land Institute Presents Camden Park with Prestigious Award | |
Camden Park won top honors at the prestigious ULI Houston Development of Distinction Awards, recognizing excellence in design and placemaking. The award highlights the park's success as a welcoming regional gathering space, embraced by the community and attracting an estimated 220,000 visitors annually.
Opened in April 2025, this award-winning destination was made possible through a partnership of the City of Houston, our funding partner, OJB, the project’s landscape architect and prime consultant, and DL Meacham, the general contractor, whose teamwork brought the vision to life.
“This award affirms our shared commitment to creating spaces that strengthen community and inspire connection. Welcoming tens of thousands of visitors to Camden Park, whether they come to walk, exercise, relax, enjoy coffee, listen to live music, or play with their children, has been deeply rewarding. It reflects the vibrant public space we envisioned,” said Irma Sanchez, President and CEO of Westchase District.
| | | Nordstrom Rack Hosts Coffee with Cops, Strengthening Safety Partnerships in the District | | |
Nordstrom Rack in Westchase Shopping Center recently welcomed the community for a Coffee with Cops event in partnership with the Houston Police Department and its Differential Response Team (DRT). The informal gathering gave residents, shoppers, and nearby employees the chance to meet officers face-to-face, ask questions, and have open conversations about safety and quality of life in the area. As Nordstrom Rack approaches its first year in the District, the store continues to demonstrate its commitment to being an active and engaged community partner.
These efforts align closely with the work of the DRT which collaborates with business districts and community partners to reduce crime and address ongoing concerns such as nuisance properties, environmental issues, and ordinance violations, while also responding to crime trends. Events like Coffee with Cops support that mission by building trust, strengthening relationships, and encouraging collaboration between officers and the people they serve.
"By hosting this event, Nordstrom Rack helped create a welcoming space for dialogue and connection, reinforcing the shared goal of keeping the community safe, informed, and engaged," said Mark Hubenak, Westchase District's vice president of public safety. Hubenak noted that a key highlight of the event was the opportunity for the store’s loss prevention and store managers to meet directly with DRT officers from HPD’s Westside substation. "These face-to-face conversations help build familiarity, improve communication, and reinforce shared strategies for addressing theft, and safety concerns affecting the surrounding area," said Hubenak.

| | | Built From Strong Family Roots, EHRA Turns 90 | |
Editor's note: As EHRA celebrates 90 years of engineering excellence, we’re proud to recognize the firm as one of the great success stories in Westchase District. We’re pleased to share reflections from EHRA President Jim Russ.
This year marks an incredible milestone for EHRA Engineering as we honor our legacy—90 years from where it all began. As we celebrate the firm’s 90th anniversary, I am filled with gratitude, pride and a deep appreciation for everything EHRA Engineering is today.
What defines EHRA today goes far beyond the services we provide. We are, at our core, a team-member-focused organization, often described as a “family business.” And while the phrase may be overused and the definition of family changing, I don’t know a better way to describe the way we whole-heartedly care for one another, lead one another and serve alongside one another every day.
When Truman [Edminster] and I began discussing taking over the firm in the late 1990s, we were coming from two very different professional experiences, but we made a commitment to take the best and the worst of what we had seen elsewhere and intentionally build a culture that reflected everything we knew we wanted EHRA to be. That didn’t happen by chance. It happened through many deliberate choices made over time.
