Schleich Saddles Up a Winner for Its ‘Power of Imagination’ Contest

More than 5,000 kids from around the world took part in Schleich USA‘s “Power of Imagination” Photo Contest. Launched at Toy Fair New York, the contest asked fans to submit original photos that depict stories inspired by imaginative play with Schleich figurines and playsets. More than 1,000 votes went to Rosa, a 15-year-old Utah resident whose entry depicted a quartet of Schleich Horse Club characters looking out over a majestic desert expanse along with their dog. Retail Sales Spike 17.7% but Still Fall Below Last Year

The rollercoaster numbers of 2020 continue with news that retail sales saw a record 17.7% increase according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s monthly retail survey. The caveat is that this follows record lows in April, which fell 14.7% according to the Census Bureau. Differences in tracking methodology from the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Dow Jones showed April declines of 16.4% and 12.3%, respectively. By the Census Bureau’s own account, retail sales in May are down 6.1% over the same period last year. Read more…
Pamela Gill-Alabaster Joins Mattel to Lead Sustainability Efforts

Last December, Mattel unveiled an expansion of its Environmental Sustainable Sourcing Principles that were announced in 2011. Under the updated plan, the company plans to use 100% recycled, recyclable, or bio-based plastics materials in both its products and packaging by 2030. Now the company has hired Pamela Gill-Alabaster as the head of sustainability to lead the charge. Read more…
