Lead in School and Child Care Drinking Water
In June, the Vermont Legislature passed a law requiring all schools and child cares to test water from all taps for lead.
The
new law grew out of a 2017
Tracking project to test 17 schools for lead. Tracking staff helped direct the new testing effort and the development of the lead results website, which allows users to view lead testing results and remediation actions at their school or child care.
Currently, results for 5 schools and 555 child cares are available. Of these, all the schools and 13% of the childcares had at least one sample result at or above the action level of 4 ppb. Already 145 fixtures have been replaced or removed because they exceeded the action level.
