2025 Business Person of the Year

Tracy Carmody

Tracy Carmody, founder and CEO of Paths to Recovery Mental Health Counseling (PTR), has been selected as the 2025 Greater Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) Business Person of the Year. Awarded since 1988, the Business Person of the Year honors those who have demonstrated integrity, accomplishments in business, and business, civic, and/or corporate leadership.

PTR is a private group therapy practice offering a full range of counseling services for all ages and stages. Located in Baldwinsville and Manlius New York, they provide a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment that is thoughtfully designed to foster personal growth, emotional healing, and lasting well-being.

Carmody started in 2012 as a solo private therapist practice. Her goal was two-fold: offer clients an alternative to the standard 12 step recovery procedure, and work part-time so she could spend time at home with her growing family. She established her group practice in 2019, serving those with a range of mental health needs from eating disorders, OCD, addiction, trauma, and anxiety while also providing a safe and supportive space for clinicians to serve their clients’ needs. Due to the growing need for children’s therapy and ever-increasing wait times to see a clinician, in 2022 Carmody expanded again, opening a children and family services office in Manlius.

Prompted by community need, she began the Sober Curious CNY Series in 2024 to address the needs of women who are often underserved in the addiction community. Sober Curious CNY offers activities and event specific topics for reflective insight. These open community events offer connection, reflection, and sober recreation to support change at all stages without rigid parameters or labels. The idea is to create a welcoming space that offers the opportunity for prevention and support while having fun.

In 2025, Carmody opened PTR Holistic Health and Wellness Center in Manlius, which offers integrative and complimentary services such as yoga, infrared sauna, reiki, sound healing, and breath work for mind, body, and well-being. Additionally, she purchased property at 7272 Van Buren Road in Baldwinsville and created a place for thoughtful, personalized counseling in a setting that feels comfortable and welcoming.

In addition to owning PTR, Carmody is active in the community. PTR is a corporate partner with Girl Scouts and Baldwinsville Rotary, and Carmody has served on the boards of the New York Mental Health Counselors Association and currently serves as an advisory board member for Maureen’s Hope Foundation. She is an active volunteer at local schools for mental health events and career fairs, sponsors many community events, and organized the B’ville Earth Day Cleanup with Baldwinsville Rotary and GBCC.

Carmody was nominated for the award by many people, including colleagues, clients, and other GBCC members. Paige Williams, a clinician with PTR, said in her nomination: “Tracy is a leader who supports the growth and development of interns and licensed professionals, and fosters the expansion of ethical, competent clinicians to meet the increasing needs of the community.”

“Her business sense is impressive, but also her passion for giving back to the community she loves with her time, her talents, and generous support. She believes in ‘community over competition’ and demonstrates that mantra every day,” says Melanie Randolph, owner of Your Window to the World LLC and president of GBCC.

The award will be presented at the Paths to Recovery Mental Health Counseling grand opening and ribbon cutting at 7272 Van Buren Road on Friday May 29, 4 to 6 pm. Eight other GBCC members were also nominated for the honor: Mike Becallo, Oswego Health; Adam Golden, Goldfinch Tattoo Company; Melissa Hennessy, SECNY Federal Credit Union; Shelley Hoffman, HHC Realty; Bridget McMahon, Hearing Aid Consultants of CNY; Kyle Proia, Tymeless Tattoo; Katie Reap, Baldwinsville Rotary; and Rachel Siderine, Seneca Savings.
