Need a Permit? Tracy's Got it Handled!


Most businesses located in Tracy or doing business with the City of Tracy are required to hold a current City of Tracy business license. It is quick and easy to apply online, and Tracy Economic Development staff is here to help. If you need a building permit, we can help with that, too! State of the City Recap

The 2026 State of the City, “Tracy: The Next Chapter,” highlighted the City’s continued growth, investment, and commitment to a strong local economy and quality of life. Mayor’s remarks focused on progress, momentum, and what’s ahead for the community, followed by a panel discussion centered on workforce development and building the community of today and tomorrow. Watch the full presentation here and view event photos here.


Open Innovation Centers Partnership

Through its partnership with Open Innovation Centers and the San Joaquin Incubator, the City of Tracy is advancing entrepreneurship through a Regional Pitch Event designed to support new business growth. Explore the full press release for details on the event and upcoming opportunities.





Volt on the Go Partnership


The City of Tracy and Volt on the Go's first exclusive course, "Introduction to Manufacturing: Relay Controls," was a success. The program saw 10 of graduates that can now bring their enhanced skills to the manufacturing industry. Building Bridges Summit


City staff attended the Building Bridges Summit at the University of the Pacific, a first-of-its-kind access to capital event hosted by Valley Strong Credit Union.


The event featured an expo of lenders, technical assistance providers, and nonprofit organizations, along with panel discussions focused on navigating the business capital journey.


City staff connected with entrepreneurs and shared resources available to Tracy-based businesses, including the Grow Tracy Fund



Business Needs Survey Results


Economic Development surveyed local businesses in summer 2025, combining over 300 outreach visits with 170 responses to better understand their needs. Results show a strong, locally rooted small business base, with top challenges including marketing, cash flow, and access to funding.
