Face Coverings Now Required Regardless of Vaccination Status
Effective August 3, 2021, Santa Clara County has issued a new Health Order requiring individuals to wear face coverings indoors regardless of vaccination status. This new Order was issued in light of the alarming rate of increasing COVID-19 cases due to the more transmissible Delta variant. Face coverings are required indoors except in situations where the individual is in their own residence or with members of their household; working in a closed office or room alone; or actively performing an activity that cannot be done while wearing a mask (e.g. swimming, eating/drinking, or receiving a cosmetic service that requires lifting the mask). Businesses must enforce this requirement for both personnel and customers, regardless of vaccination status, and must post visible signage at entrances informing personnel and customers of the requirement.

Santa Clara County Health Officer Sara Cody also recommends the following for all businesses:
  1. Implement mandatory vaccination requirements for all personnel, subject only to the limited exemptions required by law.
  2. Move operations and activities outdoors where possible, where there is significantly less risk of COVID-19 transmission. Where this is not possible, ventilation should be maximized.
  3. Prohibit all personnel who are not fully vaccinated from engaging in any work-related travel to places with elevated rates of COVID-19, with widespread circulation of variants of concern, or where community vaccination rates are below the average in the Bay Area region.
  4. Require all personnel not fully vaccinated to obtain frequent testing for COVID-19 consistent with current local, state, and federal recommendations. Any person, vaccinated or unvaccinated, who has any symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should be tested immediately.

Please click here for the full details of the Health Order. As always, the community's best protection from COVID-19 is to get vaccinated - you can find a vaccination site near you here. There will also be a free vaccine clinic this week on August 5 from 12-7pm at the Milpitas Community Center located at 457 E Calaveras Blvd - no appointment needed.
