As the leaves change and the air turns crisp, we here at ACTE are excited to bring you our Trade and Industrial Fall Newsletter, dedicated to bringing you the latest opportunities and information regarding career and technical education (CTE) in America. I don’t have to tell you how pivotal Trade and Industrial Education is in shaping the industrial and economic landscape here in the states; however, we do know that CTE is on the rise. I want to coin the phrase neo-vocationalism, in hopes that we can showcase the impact that CTE has already had in the 21st century, and generate a new mindset of an era of education that will focus on the agile relevancy that come with Trade and Industrial education. I think Bonnie Raitt said it best by singing the words, “let's give 'em something to talk about,” so let’s show the world what we do. The following are some opportunities to help you on your mission to educate the hearts and minds of students for life.
It’s the season to sign up for your CTSO memberships, so don’t hesitate to reach out to your state directors. From SkillsUSA to TSA, your CTSOs are there to provide student leadership conferences, competitive events, employability resources and connections with business and industry.
I would like to remind you to sign up for the National Trade and Industrial Education Division Awards. ACTE, in partnership with SkillsUSA, is seeking nominations for these awards which will be presented during the Trade and Industrial Division annual Business Meeting November 29, 1:45-2:45 at CareerTech VISION. (Please note that the Trade and Industrial VISION awards are separate from the ACTE Excellence awards.) This year's CareerTech VISION conference will be held Nov. 29–Dec. 2 in Phoenix, Arizona. The deadline for nominations is Nov. 1. Qualified individuals may be nominated in the following categories, and you may nominate yourself. (If you nominate someone other than yourself, please be sure to notify the nominee.)
Thank you for your commitment to our CTE students, to your CTE programs, and to the community and family that surround you and your schools. If you are interested in sharing news of your CTE program success, or if you are looking to volunteer your talents or your stories, please email me directly at btaylor@tamu.edu.
