FEATURED ANALYSES
When comparing Canada’s Charlevoix announcements to its 2010 G8 presidency, and the recommendations made by the G7’s Gender Equality Advisory Council, Canada’s ability to focus the development discussion on women and girls seems to be the only “win.” Of the $3.8 billion investment in women and girls’ education announced at the 2018 G7 Summit, the Trudeau government is committing $400 million over the next 3 years—less than half of the Harper government’s financial commitment to the Muskoka Initiative on Maternal, Newborn and Child Health announced in 2010.
