Hello,

I was so excited for the start of spring but so far we've had more snow and temperatures well below freezing and it looks like the rest of the week will be the same.  Ever the optimist, I did buy my tomato seeds this weekend and will start them inside on April 1st.

I have come across one extra of La-D-Da's Limited Edition Birdy Stitching Roll kits from the Nashville Needlework Market.  These sold out almost immediately.  The kit is $56.95.  Please email me if you would like it.

I hope to see everyone at our Open House this weekend: Friday March 28th from noon - 5 pm and Saturday March 29 from 10 am - 5 pm.

The Deerely Wrought Sampler Guild in Calgary is hosting a workshop with Nan Tyson Euler September 19-21, 2014.  The project is "Arabella" pictured here.

Arabella The course description is:  Four hundred years ago Arabella Stuart (cousin to Elizabeth I) was poised to inherit the English crown from her Queen.  Life's circumstances interfered and she has fallen into history's obscurity.

Stitch this Elizabethan style sampler while listening to Arabella's story.  The sampler uses silk to do Double Running, Detached Buttonhole, Trellis, Or Nu and cross stitch variations.  The Elizabethan letter game, Ciphers, will be explored and your individual cipher will be part of the sampler motifs.  Optional basting. The strawberry in the lower right corner can be done in Or Nue or Padded Satin stitch.

The design size on 34 count linen is approx 9" x 11".  The kit includes linen, doodle cloths, silk threads, gold metal thread, seed pearls and beads.

The workshop cost is $220 ($110 for the workshop and $110 for the kit).  Spaces are limited.  For more information or to register please contact Jeanette djdover@shaw.ca

Thank you!

Janice

Kelmscott Designs

Pear Needle Minder Red Barn Needle Minder Hearts Atopple Scissors

Paula is sending us two new Needle Minder designs: the Pear Needle Minder and the Red Barn Needle Minder.  Each measures approximately .75" x 1.25".  Place this minder on your fabric or a table and rest your needle, threader or a tiny pair of scissors on it!

Hearts Atopple Scissors - 3.75" long.  Paula tells us: "They are done in the primitive style and again with the shorter blades but longer in the handle holes to the blades, great for getting into those hard to reach snipping areas."

Island Cottage Needleworks

Mom's Penny Pinkeep Hare a Leaping Candle Mat I love the look of primitive wool rugs but just don't have the time to take up another needle art.  This is a great compromise!  This is a new series of designs that are going to be really fun to stitch.  You can order them individually or please let us know if you would like to receive each chart in the series as it comes available.

The first design is Mom's Penny Pinkeep and the second is Hare A Leaping Candle Mat.

The designs call for 36 count hand dyed linen from Lakeside Linens and hand dyed cotton floss from the Gentle Art.  We are happy to kit these for you.

Puffin & Company

Snail Counting Pins Watering Can  Ladybug

Puffin & Company make wonderful needlework accessories that are hand crafted from a copper, brass and other metals (that are shiny and hard to photograph well as my less-than-stellar photography shows)  ;-)

Snail Counting Pins - this set of four counting pins includes 2 each of the snail and 2 of the heart. Each tiny piece is about 1/2 inch in size and will lay flat against your fabric.  The pins are #24 size with a tapestry point.

Needle Nannies - Diane had two new Needle Nanny designs for us: a Watering Can and a Ladybug!  To use simply place your Needle Minder on the front of your needlework canvas or fabric, in a convenient location, and align the other magnet directly behind your Needle Nanny.   It is made with 2 super strong high quality rare earth magnets.  The Needle Keepers are strong enough to hold your scissors as well.

Heart Puppy Needle Threader Kitty Needle Threader

New from Puffin & Company this year are Needle Threaders.  Left to right we have a Heart Needle Threader, Puppy Needle Threader and the Kitty Needle Threader.

Liberty Hill

Hannah BirdwellHannah Birdwell Stitch Boxe - Carolyn's newest Limited Edition hand painted box will arrive to us soon.  We do have a few that are still available.  Your advance orders are welcome and recommended.

Carolyn tells us: "Liberty Hill's newest box is created for a 9 year old little Quaker girl who might have lived in early 1800s in southeastern Pennsylvania.

A slide-top boxe measuring approx. 8" x 5" x 4" high. It is in the Pennsylvania style with a leaping deer, stars, hearts and an early year all painted on the lid and sides of the boxe with the words "For thy deerly wrought handworke".

Inside the boxe, you will find a short story about Hannah, a chart to stitch her small Blackwork Sampler, a small hand painted wooden project ring for threads and a fragment of red wool in the shape of a heart for your pins and needles along with a piece of black ribbon to tie your rolled up finished sampler after you've stitched it.

The FoldThe Fold - we are very excited to announce this upcoming series from Shepherd's Bush!  We've just had an update that this series will now arrive to us towards the end of March....there is still plenty of time to get your advance orders in to us!

Tina & Teri tell us: "It has been a few years since we did this, but Teri & I have been wanting to do it again for a while, so we are ready to embark on the best Fold ever.  If you join us you will be promised a year of fun, excitement and wonderful projects plus the joy of a surprise in the mail when you least expect it. Yippee! This Fold is going to be a delightful little sewing box filled with sweet & lovely necessities."

There will be a new little treasure to stitch about every other month. When you sign up for the Fold, you will automatically receive these kits and be charged for each one as it is ready.

The first kit that you will receive will be a darling sampler that will be used to cover the top of the box. After that each kit will be a new item to stitch and keep in your sewing box. Projects will be stitched on 32 count hand-dyed linen with a gentle palette of lovely silks.

The first kit will be larger than the rest (price to be determined but expect about $56.95). The rest of the kits will be in the $16.95 - $28.95 range depending on the quantities of materials included in each kit.
