Electronic Leashes - City of Round Rock Rules
As electronic leashes gain popularity, we sought clarification from the Animal Control Officers regarding Round Rock's leash laws pertaining to electronic leashes. The Animal Control Supervisor has affirmed that electronic leashes do not meet the criteria for proper restraint; instead, animals must be physically restrained in accordance with the city regulations.

According to Section 8-2: Definitions-At large means that an animal is:
(1) On the premises of the owner and is not tied, staked, or restrained securely within an enclosure or fence capable of fully and totally securing the animal; or
(2) Off the premises of the owner and is not on a leash under the immediate control of a person physically capable of restraining the animal or is not restrained securely within an enclosure or fence capable of fully and totally securing the animal.

In addition, according to Section 8-204: Restraint of Dogs:
Any dog, while on a street, sidewalk, public way in any park, public square, or other public space shall be restrained and secured by a leash or chain of sufficient tensile strength to restrain the particular dog. Said leash or chain shall not be longer than 25 feet in a public park and shall not be longer than six feet on or in any other place. An animal that is not restrained in compliance with this section shall be considered at large in violation of Section 8-200. This section shall not apply to a dog that is within the fenced area of a designated leash-free dog park.

Please contact the City of Round Rock Animal Control directly if you have any questions regarding this at animals@roundrocktexas.gov.
Feral Cats
We would like to inform you about an ongoing effort in our community to humanely trap feral cats for the purpose of either domestication and adoption or relocation to a feral cat sanctuary where they will receive proper care. To ensure the success of this initiative, we kindly request your cooperation in refraining from feeding the feral cats in the area. The use of food as bait is crucial for luring the cats into traps, and their hunger significantly increases the chances of successful trapping. Your understanding and cooperation in not feeding the feral cats will greatly assist in the success of this humane trapping effort.
