LETTER FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
|
|
Greeting Residents, Future Residents and Family Members,
What an exciting time of year! Our days are filled with light much longer and nights are warmer allowing us to spend much more time outdoors. As we enter this time of year, we are excited to begin preparing our flower and shrubbery beds, trimming, mulching and manicuring the grounds. This too is an opportunity for residents, who enjoy getting their hands dirty, to prepare the raised planter beds and plant their favorite flowers, vegetables and herbs. For those who prefer not to cultivate the soil, this is a great opportunity to clean out our clutter and rearrange our homes. Doing these spring-cleaning projects, such as swapping out winter clothing for lighter options, brings an opportunity to donate to those less fortunate.
Wishing everyone a happy Spring and safe Summer,
Charles Quinn
Executive Director

Happy Spring from the Wellness Department!
As the weather begins to warm and we spend more and more of our time outdoors here are some best practices that will allow you to enjoy the season. Hydration, Hydration, Hydration!
Keeping your body hydrated will help all your bodily systems run smoothly and aids your body in cooling itself during the warmer days. It’s best to consume smaller amounts of liquids throughout the day to maintain a good balance. Did you know that coffee and alcoholic drinks can dehydrate you? As we may enjoy a summer cocktail or iced latte, these may not be best for keeping you hydrated.

Sunscreen and shade are two allies during this time of year. Shade, along with drinking fluids throughout the day, will help you maintain hydration. Sunscreen is your friend and should be applied to exposed skin all year long. During the spring and summer season the sun’s rays are strongest between 10am and 4pm regardless of whether you see the sun or not due to clouds. We continue to be exposed to UVA and UVB rays even when the day is not sunny, for this reason, it is important to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen and reapply every couple of hours if you are outdoors. Many medications make us photosensitive, making us burn easily. If you are on medications that have this effect, you may want to consider keeping yourself in shady areas as much as possible while enjoying the outdoors. Other options to consider are wearing a large-brimmed hat to shade your face and loose fitting, breathable clothing made of cotton or other highly breathable fabrics.

In our memory care neighborhood, we maintain a hydration station for all residents to enjoy throughout the day and we encourage residents to enjoy small drinks throughout the day. As we begin to spend more time on our patio, we will follow the above best practices as we start craft projects such as painting rocks to enhance and brighten up our garden beds. We have several exciting outdoor projects in the works which will enhance and brighten up our outdoor space. We are very relieved and excited to announce that masks are no longer required while COVID case counts in Greene Co. are low. In the event this changes, we will communicate to residents, families and visitors.
The Wellness team hopes you have a great spring and summer season!

The Traditions of Beavercreek Maintenance Department has a few updates and tips for spring:
- We will be changing the groundkeepers for our community.
- When planting your beautiful spring flowers, please don’t leave your hose on between uses; this has caused a few problems in the past.
- We will be changing filters in the garden home furnaces as soon as the new filters arrive.
The Maintenance department wishes you all a wonderful spring and summer season.

As we move into more time spent outdoors, please make sure to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and possibly a hat. We offer different fruit waters daily at our hydration station in the dining room. Consuming more fresh fruit can also assist in keeping our bodies from becoming dehydrated, not to mention they are a great source of prebiotic fibers.
And as always, we want to hear from you! Please let us know what foods you like or things you’d like to see changed. We have been making service changes, adding new staff and doing the very best we possibly can to make your dining experience an important part of your day.
