SPRING NEWSLETTER | APRIL 3, 2023
SPRING HAS ARRIVED!
And it couldn’t come any quicker! I’m excited to see the campus in its first full bloom this spring.

There are many things popping up here at Traditions of Lebanon! As we have more and more residents join us, we are adding more and more associates to the Traditions of Lebanon family! You’ll be seeing some new faces in the dining room, cleaning rooms, and caring for our residents. Don’t worry your favorite staff members are still here.
Our new spring and summer menus are arriving in April as well! You can’t go wrong with fresh vegetables and homemade desserts and soups. I can’t wait to try all of our new 45 recipes, new desserts, and soups!

A new addition to our campus this year will be our gardens! We are putting in raised gardens for our Independent Living residents to grow their own vegetables and a raised flower bed for our Assisted Living residents to grow some vegetables and flowers. And, we couldn’t leave out our amazing Memory Care residents who will be growing and planting in their courtyard also.

As the weather warms up and the rain holds off, we hope you can enjoy getting outside more in any of our courtyards. We have some exciting outdoor activities planned on our campus, and out in the community as well. Enjoy those sunny days coming!

COMMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: CELEBRATING 1 YEAR
It’s hard to believe that on February 7th, we celebrated our 1 year anniversary! Time flies when you’re having fun! Over the winter, we have gained so many new additions to the Traditions of Lebanon family. Our community continues to grow and so does the number of activities and events. A reflection of the past 3 months would include an intriguing and delicious Murder Mystery dinner that the residents and staff participated in, a day that we stepped back in time to visit the 1950’s, a lovely Valentine’s Day dinner, a delicious Chili cook off, a Mardi Gras celebration, a St. Patrick’s Day Happy Hour and Lucky Bingo event, a visit from the baby goats from Dreams to Reality Farm, several field trips and so much more! Most importantly, we celebrated a night of elegance for our 1 Year Gala Anniversary.
In addition to all of that fun stuff, we kicked off a new program called Fit Minds. Fit Minds is a life changing mental stimulation program that we offer to all levels of care and can be beneficial to everyone, especially those in our assisted living and memory care communities. We are very excited to watch this program grow and change the lives of so many of our residents.

In the upcoming months, we are looking forward to continuing the fun, education and growing. Some things we have coming up are opening day festivities for the Reds, an elegant Ladies Brunch, a beautiful family Easter celebration, a step back in time to the 1960’s, Mother’s and Father’s Day events, a Memorial Day celebration and so much more!!!

To say we are blessed with such wonderful residents and families would be an understatement. We are so thankful to be working in the place that our residents call home and we’re really looking forward to adding so much more fun and love in 2023.

VARIETAS COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
The definition of Cognitive Stimulation is the act or process of stimulating; the condition of being stimulated; see also promotion and enhancement.
Something we are really enjoying in our Varietas program is stimulating activities, even our introverts are joining in on all the fun. One thing I personally love about our newly added Fit Minds program, is that these activities can be performed 1-on-1 with residents and activity sheets can be done individually, but can still be done as a group for a group activity.

Cognitive stimulation is progressively being positioned as a type of brain training that is embedded within the routine of people, helping them adequately address the demands of the environment. Everyone from children and adolescents to adults, seniors and the elderly, can benefit from cognitive stimulation. We have noticed since adding Fit Minds to our Varietas program twice daily, that residents' moods have improved overall, and our residents are involved and engaged in more activities. The residents enjoy all the games and don’t notice that it’s working their brain because the cognitive stimulation activities they are doing are fun! We may be on to something here, friends. Cognitive stimulation in adults is used as a therapy to help maintain active cognitive functions in people who have, or are at risk for, cognitive impairment. This means to achieve such good mental health is to keep the brain active, by performing exercises in memory, orientation, attention, or language, among others.

We are noticing in our Varietas community that most, if not all, residents are socializing more. Socialization is one of our Core Values here at Traditions. Studies show that socialization improves quality of life and reduces depression. We are so glad that our residents have a daily socialization activity in their daily routine.

ACTIVITY SPOTLIGHT
“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” ~ Bob Marley
One of our most valued activities here at Traditions of Lebanon is our live entertainment and music therapy! We have a variety of live entertainment guests that come to perform for our residents weekly! This is important because music therapy is a huge part of Cognitive Stimulation and Memory Recollection. Music therapy is also known to have many other benefits such as anxiety reduction, depression reduction, stress reduction, improvement of emotional regulation and processing, all while enjoying the performance and having fun!

Most people regularly experience and seek out music in some way, shape, or form. Music affects the human brain structures, unconscious movements, physical sensations, and emotional responses. There are many benefits of music that we naturally experience as part of life. Engaging in live entertainment and music therapy can embrace these natural responses to music and improve quality of life in many ways.
Please stop in and pick-up an Activity Calendar at the Front Desk to see our upcoming live entertainment! We would love to have you join us!

WARM WEATHER IS BACK TO STAY!
Now that warmer weather is back to stay, thermostats will need to be set appropriately. Thermostat controls can be switched to cool mode with a mid-70s temperature and then adjusted as needed. Keeping the fan in auto mode will keep the air from blowing unless the temperature hits the set point for A/C. If windows are open on a nice day, please try to close them if rain or an unusually cold night is in the forecast to ensure your own comfort.

The spring season brings spring cleaning. Starting in mid-May, we will be pressure washing the front and back porches of our villas, the main building, and our courtyards. We will also be switching out the batteries in our smoke detectors along with the air filters. As always, we will notify you when we are in your villa, room, or working immediately outside.

Staying active and staying safe! If you see any safety concerns around the community or on our campus, please let the community know by contacting 513-409-0900.

SPRING WELLNESS UPDATES
As spring approaches, we are welcoming some new and exciting changes here at Traditions of Lebanon. We are pleased to announce the addition of Eric Bletzinger C.N.P. from Dr. Weller’s office. Eric will be at our community all day every Tuesday. Many of you have met Eric already. He has been performing some very thorough check-ups with each of our residents. Eric’s delightful bedside manner and expertise have been well received.

Another exciting edition to our daily routine has been our Fit Minds program. Exercising our brain is just as important as exercising the rest of our body. Please come join us in the activity room and see what all the hype is about.

I want to take this opportunity to visit all the services available at our community. We have physical, occupational, and speech therapy through Therapy Advantage. We have home health nursing for managing wounds, etc. through Premiere Nursing. Mobilex will come to the community to perform doppler studies and x-rays. Dr. Perelman is our house podiatrist who comes once a month. We currently use Industry Lab for all blood draws and processing of most lab tests. We also are using Lab Corp to process any specialized lab tests that Industry Lab does not process.

Lastly, I wanted to bring attention to the wonderful growth we are experiencing at Traditions of Lebanon. I am interviewing and hiring some wonderful talent. We are adding additional nurses and caregivers on both shifts. We want to ensure every resident has his or her needs met in a timely manner.

CHEF'S CORNER
We are excited that our new Spring and Summer menu will be coming out in April! There are so many new recipes for entrées, desserts, salads, and soups. We can’t wait to try them all.

One of my favorite spring dinners is Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs with Carrots and Broccoli. This recipe is packed with colorful, seasonal vegetables and serves up a good serving of anti-oxidants to keep us healthy! You can bake this dish or grill it in some foil. Click button below to download the recipe. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
