IT'S A SPECIAL SUMMER AT TRADITIONS OF LEBANON!
|
|
We are so excited for the summer this year! We are excited to see the plants and flowers growing throughout the campus in our first year. Stop by our Memory Care neighborhood to see the flowering pots they have to brighten their courtyard. We also can't wait to see our Independent Living Garden take full bloom. Several Independent Living residents took advantage of our garden to grow their own vegetables and flowers.

We are looking forward to our second annual Carnival this summer! It was such a huge hit last year that we are doing it again this year. Keep an eye out for the announcement of the date and time. We are planning on having the goats, dunking booth, raffle baskets and split-the-pot back, and are adding some fun new attractions. It will be open to the public and all proceeds go to the Alzheimer’s Association.

It is incredibly exciting to see our community grow as we add new residents and staff members to our Traditions family! We love to learn about our residents and to showcase their lives, hobbies, and passions. Paul Figgins shares his passion by facilitating our walking club. Independent Living residents, Tom and Vicki Perry, shared a recent trip to Australia with all our residents. We have many more programs and activities shared by our residents coming this summer as well!
Every family has their own traditions. We are so happy that you have chosen Traditions to be a part of yours!

Traditions of Lebanon is in full bloom! Not only are our trees and flowers in bloom, but so is our addition of new residents. In just a little over a year, we have reached over 60% occupancy, and we are not slowing down. We are thrilled with all the new residents that we are getting to know, and all of their wonderful families too.
How are we filling up so quickly, you ask? I believe it’s because of all our beauty. Our beauty at Traditions of Lebanon encompasses so much. There is beauty in the buildings, the grounds, the amazing staff, the atmosphere, but mostly, the beauty is found in our residents. We are blessed to have the best staff and residents here at Traditions of Lebanon and so thankful to get to work where our residents live.

Fun is our middle name! Some of the fun things we’ve been doing over the past few months have been a wonderful resident/family Easter dinner, lots of live entertainment, a trip to Cox Arboretum, burgers and brews for the guys, ladies brunch with made to order omelets, a very large Health Fair in our community, a Cinco De Mayo party, a Memorial Day cookout, a cooking demo class with Chef Mike, a trip to the sign museum in Cincinnati, muffins and mimosa’s with mom, multiple “Tradition gives back to the community” projects, weekly book club, walking club 3 days a week, donuts with dad, a massive car show to support the Alzheimer’s association, ice cream outings, monthly memory care support/education meetings and WAY too many arts/crafts to list and so much more. Our philosophy is that staying active and socially engaged promotes a better quality of life. We want to provide not only the best care for our residents, but also the best quality of life for them.
|
|
Listening to our residents’ suggestions is also very important to us. We have added activities and trips, over time, that have been suggested by our residents. Recently, they requested a resident garden, so a garden is what they got! It is wonderful watching their garden grow and seeing the results of what they have planted come to fruition.

The fun and care never stop here at Traditions of Lebanon and we are looking forward to a summer full of events and activities with our residents, their families and our staff!
With the heat approaching soon, a reminder to all to continue to enjoy your summer outdoor events, but please make sure to hydrate and not get overheated. I sure hope to see you at one of our wonderful events in the future and please check out our Facebook page “ Traditions of Lebanon” to see pictures of all the fun we are having!

HAPPY SUMMER! LET'S STAY HYDRATED!
|
|
Staying hydrated can enhance your ability to better concentrate, improve focus, decrease mental fatigue, and increase short-term memory recall. This is especially important during these hot summer months. Not to mention it creates stronger cognitive functioning across the board, including more alertness, less confusion, and even faster decision making and improved performance on cognitive tests.
As people get older the sensation of thirst changes. This may mean they don’t feel thirsty even though they’re not drinking enough. Someone with dementia may experience similar changes. They may be less able or unlikely to get themselves a drink. This is why we have incorporated hydration times in our Varietas neighborhood. We offer residents drinks during activities and outdoor times. A person with dementia may become dehydrated when they’re unable to communicate or recognize that they’re thirsty, or if they simply forget to drink. This can lead to headaches, increased confusion, urinary tract infections and constipation. These can make the symptoms of dementia worsen. We are staying ahead of this before the need arises.

Socialization: Purposeful interaction with family, staff and other residents promotes friendships and activities that maximize quality of life.
Seniors are especially vulnerable to feelings of isolation and loneliness. Typically, we see seniors isolated when they live alone. Older adults who live in senior living communities are generally more active and more social because of the opportunities we have throughout the day to connect with neighbors and staff members thanks to our awesome activity program!
|
|
Socialization is important for everyone, but especially for older adults. Here are just a few benefits:
- Decreased feelings of depression and anxiety.
- Decreased health complications from obesity to heart disease.
- Decreased cognitive loss.
- Increased immune system response.
- Feeling connected and supported by their peers.
Traditions of Lebanon’s activity program hosts several activities a day ranging from tea parties, group games, crafts, socials, group exercise classes, happy hours, and more!
Please stop in and pick up an Activity Calendar at the Front Desk to see our upcoming activities. We would love to have you join!

As the weather warms up and we all enjoy more outdoor activities, we need to protect our skin. Fortunately, there are so many products available to accomplish this. In addition to available products, we can all limit our sun exposure between the hours of 10am and 4pm when the UV rays are most harmful. Even on cloudy days the UV rays are present.
The most obvious way to protect our skin is to apply sunscreen daily. Sunscreen should be reapplied every 2 hours and always after swimming. There are so many types and brands of sunscreen to choose from. Two important factors to keep in mind when choosing sunscreen: broad spectrum sunscreen is necessary and always choose SPF 30 or greater. SPF 30 protects against 97% of harmful rays. SPF 50 will provide an additional 1% for a total of 98% protection. The recommendation for applying lotion sunscreen is equivalent to 1 ounce or 2 tablespoons to exposed skin. If you prefer a spray bottle of sunscreen the recommendation is to spray the product for 6 seconds to exposed skin.
There are a few more items needed to protect ourselves from the sun. We need to wear polarized sunglasses to protect our eyes from harmful rays. Our heads, specifically our scalps, need protection as well. Wearing a hat is always best practice and can also be a fashion statement. There is a multitude of clothing that has SPF in the material to provide additional protection from the sun. Do not forget to make an appointment yearly to have your skin examined. Even the most diligent people following all these practices can develop skin cancers or other skin conditions.

SUMMER TIPS TO BEAT THE HEAT
|
|
Now that summer weather is here, we need to keep a few things in mind.
- Thermostats should be in cool mode and set around 73-75 degrees.
- Only open windows on days that are 75 degrees or cooler to keep humidity down and stay comfortable.
- Don’t forget to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated when outside for extended periods. This includes our fur friends as well.
- Please remember that our entire property is smoke free. During this time of year, one cigarette could start a fire if tossed near dry vegetation.
If spending time in the sun, be sure to use sunscreen on exposed skin. Have a great time enjoying the outdoors!
