Traffic Alert: Route 7 Lane Closures for Clearing Start Jan. 27

Along about seven miles of Route 7, we're adding a third lane and shared-use paths in each direction, building a pedestrian underpass to access Colvin Run Mill Park, replacing and raising the bridge over Difficult Run, and making other intersection, bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Learn more.

Daytime Lane Closures for Clearing Begin Jan. 27

Crews working along Route 7 within VDOT right of way

Beginning on or about Jan. 27 and continuing into February, weather permitting, drivers can expect single-lane and shoulder closures along eastbound Route 7 Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Fridays, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tree-clearing and grubbing along the VDOT right of way. The clearing crews will be working between Baron Cameron Avenue and Colvin Forest Drive to prepare these areas for construction that will add a lane and shared-use path in each direction of Route 7.

Please note crews are only working within the VDOT right of way. Work on private property along the corridor will not start until rights are acquired from property owners (read more) .

As a reminder, the Route 7 speed limit has been reduced to 45 miles per hour in active work zones between Reston Avenue and Jarrett Valley Drive.

Please use caution and be alert to work zone signs, potential flagger or police direction, and watch for traffic shifts. Slow-moving vehicles and equipment may be entering or exiting the road.
