YOLO COUNTY – Caltrans is notifying motorists of an extended weekend full closure for westbound (WB) Interstate 80 (I-80) in Sacramento and Yolo counties as part of the ongoing $280 million Interstate 80 and U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) Pavement Rehabilitation Project.
Westbound I-80 is scheduled to be a full closure from the Interstate 5 (I-5) and I-80 interchange in Sacramento County to the US 50 and I-80 Interchange in West Sacramento in Yolo County for 55 hours from 9 p.m. Friday, September 5 to 4 a.m. Monday September 8, allowing contractors to complete demolition and pavement work. After completion of the weekend closure, nighttime closures in the work zone will continue from September 8 through September 18, 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. during the week and 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the weekend (Friday-Monday morning.)
Additionally, the WB I-80 to EB US 50 connector will continue to be closed 24 hours a day through September 18.
Motorists travelling to the Bay Area should avoid this work zone and use an alternate route. Motorists should consider using southbound I-5 and southbound State Route 99.
Motorists with flights at Sacramento International Airport (SMF) are urged to leave earlier, use an alternate route and allow at least an additional 30- to 40-minute travel time to check in or pick up passengers at SMF.
On-ramp and Connector Closures:
- Northbound (NB) I-5 to WB I-80 connector
- WB I-80 to WB I-80 and US 50 connector
- West El Camino on-ramps to WB I-80
- Reed Avenue on-ramp to WB I-80
Suggested Detours:
- From WB I-80: Take the connector on-ramp from WB I-80 to southbound (SB)
I-5. Continue to SB I-5.
Local Detour in West Sacramento from Reed Avenue and Sacramento Avenue to westbound (WB) I-80:
- To WB I-80 use SB Harbor Boulevard to WB West Capitol Avenue to WB I-80 on-ramp.
- To WB US 50 use SB Harbor Boulevard to EB US 50 on-ramp.
