Roundabout Construction Scheduled to Resume

At the Intersection of State Route 49 and Lincoln Way/Borland Avenue

AUBURN – Caltrans is alerting motorists that construction is scheduled to resume on the $11.4 million American Canyon Roundabout Project along State Route 49 at the intersection of Lincoln Way/Borland Avenue on Wednesday, September 10.

Crews will begin work to relocate the sewer line before constructing the new roundabout and scheduled to complete work by the end of the year. Intermittent traffic control with a flagger may be necessary at times depending on construction activity between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Motorists should anticipate delays between 10 to 15 minutes, which may increase during peak commute hours. The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather, availability of materials or other unexpected events.

The project was paused in July 2024 after unforeseen permit issues. Caltrans and the City of Auburn worked continuously during this time with Union Pacific Railroad and received the necessary permit on August 27, 2025.

Lamon Construction Co., Inc. of Yuba City is the prime contractor for the project, which will realign two reversing curves to improve sight distance and safety by reducing the sharpness of each curve. Additionally, the existing traffic signal at the Lincoln Way/Borland Avenue intersection will be replaced with a roundabout to improve safety and traffic flow.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
