Along about seven miles of Route 7, we're adding a third lane and shared-use paths in each direction, building a pedestrian underpass to access Colvin Run Mill Park, replacing and raising the bridge over Difficult Run, and making other intersection, bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Learn more.

UPDATE: Eastbound Route 7 Traffic Shift Begins Jan. 25 Between Lyons Street and Lewinsville Road

The lane shift and temporary traffic changes previously scheduled for Jan. 18 have been rescheduled to take place on or about Jan. 25. Drivers on eastbound Route 7 will experience a lane shift to the north (towards the median) between Lyons Street and Lewinsville Road. Temporary traffic changes on side streets will be in place while crews continue the construction along Route 7. All residences, businesses and other public facilities will remain accessible. Stokely Way Closed at Route 7 through late 2022. Drivers will use Robnel Place, Atwood Road and Beulah Road for access between Route 7 and Stokely Way.

Trap Road Closed at Route 7 through late 2022. Drivers will use Towlston Road for access between Trap Road and Route 7.

All work is weather-dependent and subject to change. For information on intersection movements at the completion of construction, please see the interactive map on the project website. Please note crews are only working within the VDOT right of way and where rights have been acquired from property owners (read more). As a reminder, the Route 7 speed limit has been reduced to 45 miles per hour in active work zones between Reston Avenue and Jarrett Valley Drive, and Virginia law prohibits the use of handheld cell phones while driving through an active work zone. Please use caution and be alert to work zone signs, potential flagger or police direction, and watch for traffic shifts. Slow-moving vehicles and equipment may be entering or exiting the road.
