Traffic Alert: Portions of South Frontage Road & Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to be Closed Briefly on 12/20

MLK Blvd. & SFR to be Closed Briefly on Tuesday, December 20


On Tuesday, December 20, between 5 and 6 a.m., the portion of South Frontage Road between Orange and Church Streets will be closed very briefly to allow for testing of a newly installed wrong-way detection system.


The South Frontage Road closure will be followed by a brief closure of Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, also occurring between Orange and Church Streets.


Testing of the wrong-way detection system on both South Frontage Road and Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard is anticipated to be completed by 6 a.m.


On-road signage will provide drivers with advanced notice of the brief traffic stoppage and State and Local police will be present. Drivers are reminded to please pay attention to road signage, slow down, and stay safe!

Overview

Aside from the brief closures of portions of South Frontage Road and Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard noted immediately above, no significant changes to the existing traffic patterns are anticipated to occur over the next week. 


Various lane closures will continue to occur to accommodate construction of 101 College Street; they are listed in more detail immediately below.


LANE CLOSURES

Through Friday, December 23, 2022, lane closures may occur on the following roads to accommodate construction of 101 College Street:


  • South Frontage Road (SFR): double-lane closures on SFR between York and College Streets (Night work).
  • South Frontage Road (SFR): single-lane closures on SFR between College and Church Streets.
  • Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Boulevard: daytime single and double-lane closures between College and Church Streets; multiple lane closures on week-nights, with one lane remaining open at all times.
  • Temple Street: single lane closures on Temple Street between George Street and MLK Boulevard.
  • College Street:  double-lane closures between Crown & George Streets



WORK HOURS

Through Friday, December 23, 2022, Downtown Crossing-related work will occur during both daytime and nighttime work hours.


Daytime work hours are weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. 


Nighttime work hours are between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.


Nighttime work is scheduled to occur Sundays beginning at 8 p.m. through Fridays at 6 a.m. every week from now until the end of 2022. 


This night work will occur in two locations and lane closures may occur on:

--on South Frontage Road between York and College Streets

--on MLK Blvd. between Temple and York Streets.


This work is not expected to cause loud noise. Any nighttime work that has the potential to create loud noise will be called out through a special notice at the beginning of all Construction News notices.



Road signage will alert drivers to lane closures in the construction area.
