Traffic Alert: Week of October 5th

Daytime Lane Closures on Main Street Extension near the Route 17 Overpass

Residents, commuters, and the traveling public are advised to expect daytime lane closures on Main Street Extension between the hours of 7am and 4pm beginning on or about the week of October 5, 2026. Construction crews will be performing steel repair on the south fascia of Bridge No. 00860, Route 17 SB over Main Street Extension. Travel lanes on Route 17 SB over the repair area may also be closed during this period. 

The work is expected to take approximately 3 weeks.

Motorists are advised to follow detour signs and to allow for extra travel time. Pedestrian detours may be used to direct foot traffic around the work area.

Construction activities are subject to change. Modifications to the schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.

This work is a part of the Reconfiguration of Route 17 On-ramp to Route 9 Northbound Project in the City of Middletown and is part of CTDOT safety improvement initiative to mitigate front-to-rear crashes at the ramp entrance to Route 9 Northbound.
