The Message this Week

Preaching Text:  John 8:12-20

The light of the world! The religious leaders are challenging Jesus on His claims about His identity. Even though there have been miracles and signs, they seem unwilling to believe. What do we need in order to believe that, even in our most challenging times, Jesus, the light, is with us and is just who He proclaims Himself to be?

Holy and Mighty God, You sent Jesus, Your light to shine in the darkness. Help us to share this good news with everyone we meet. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

WONDERING...

Real questions from real people to learn more about faith.

What’s up with VBC? Why do we do it?

• Holy God, speak words of hope to us, remind us of your promises, and strengthen our communities of mutual love and support, that we might live our faith in the midst of challenges.
• Make us wise and loving stewards of all that you have made, and make us proactive in the work of preserving, protecting, and restoring creation.
• Stir up in the hearts of all elected leaders a deep compassion for the most vulnerable among us, that they might pursue justice and equity for those they serve.
• Help us to work to ensure that every single person has access to appropriate medical care. Walk with those who are experiencing health challenges of any kind especially Ken & Sue Issel, Ric Tornberg, and Scott Hauge.
• Bless the work of those who are engaged in peace-making efforts around the globe. Relieve all peoples of the nationalism that drives us apart, that we might embody your vision of a united people.
• We remember all those who have walked in uncertain times before us, and yet kept their faith in you and your eternal promises.

All things exist in and through you, loving God. Therefore we entrust our prayers, our faith, and our lives to you, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
