VALLEJO, CA- On December 24, 2024, a City of Vallejo public works crew, performing a cleanup at an illegal dumping site, encountered a person who had been fatally injured and who it was later discovered had been compressed within the debris.
The Vallejo Police Department conducted an investigation into the death and determined that there was no indication of any person having an intent to cause harm, bodily injury, or death.
Further, as is standard procedure in any death of this nature, the Solano County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy and reached findings and determinations on the cause of death, which was blunt force injuries likely sustained accidentally by the heavy equipment.
On February 24, 2025, the Solano County District Attorney’s Office informed the Vallejo Police Department that there was insufficient evidence to file criminal charges.
Vallejo City Manager Andrew Murray expressed, “The City sends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased person. This was a tragic incident.”
