ERAC Webinar Update for Responder s - Save the date: November 16, 2016
 
National Training Forum - Emergency Response Assistance Canada's National Training Forum will be taking place in May 2017. Please stay tuned for more details.
 
New ERAC Response Teams - We would like to welcome two newly trained, assessed and approved ERAC Response Teams; Sutherland Excavating Ltd. from Miramichi, NB, and Accuworx Inc. from Mississauga, ON. By adding the two newly approved response teams, ERAC is able to expand and enhance our response capabilities on behalf of our Plan Participants.

Annual two-day training and assessment of LPG and Flammable Liquids Response Teams
ERAC requires annual mandatory two-day training and assessment sessions for all LPG and Flammable Liquids Response Teams. This year our teams have trained in:
  • Richmond British Columbia at the CN rail yard
  • Kamloops British Columbia at the CN rail yard
  • St. Thomas Ontario at Dowler-Karn
  • Ernestown Ontario at Gibson Gas Liquids
  • Valleyfield Quebec at Pro Transfert
  • Edmonton Alberta at the Keyera Diluent Terminal and the CP rail yard
  • Saint John New Brunswick at the RST Bayshore facility
  • Surry BC at the Canwest rail facility
  • Winnipeg Manitoba at the CN rail yard
  • Bathurst New Brunswick at the Superior Propane facility
  • Taylor British Columbia at the McMahon gas plant
  • Winnipeg Manitoba at the BNSF rail yard
  • Brampton Ontario at the CN rail yard
  • Thunder Bay Ontario at the CN rail yard
Training locations for rail, truck and stationary tanks are important in helping ensure our responders are ready for any incident. All of us at ERAC thank these companies for stepping forward in support of the Regional Training and Assessment program.
Improving how we train

The 2016 Regional training and assessments are nearly complete.

The incident event reports I distribute to RMAs and Response Team Leaders (RTLs), detail the challenges that were encountered and resolved at the time of the incident. During Regionals, I like to discuss the challenges faced at these incidents to bring awareness and experience to responders who may encounter these challenges at future incidents.

Training - why should people care?

Training is a road map to zero safety incidents. At ERAC one of the key elements of our safety and quality program is our training. We train and mentor a number of responders across the country on an annual basis. The training we provide our responders gives them the understanding of how to operate safely. Update on ERAC's Learning Management System Training

ERAC has updated the WHMIS training requirement on ERAC's Learning Management System (LMS), SafetySync. We have removed WHMIS 1988 from your training portal and have enabled WHMIS 2015 as a new mandatory certificate requirement. There are two options in order to meet this new certificate requirement. You can upload your employer provided WHMIS certificate to ERAC's LMS or, alternatively , ERAC has enabled WHMIS 2015 in your 'Online Courses' as an optional requirement. Update on LPG Firefighter Training

LPG Level 1 Mobile Operations training

ERAC, on behalf of our Plan Participants, offers more than just our LPG Firefighting Awareness Online Training to first responders and ERAC responders across Canada. We have also purchased two LPG prop trailers to provide a 2-day LPG Level 1 Mobile Operations Training course directed at first responders from coast to coast.
