“Building trust through governance.” TransForm has introduced a new role: Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) Coordinator. Irina Baluyot has stepped into a new role as Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) Coordinator where she will be working closely with leadership, project teams, and customers to ensure we deliver IT solutions responsibly and securely.
This role oversees compliance with healthcare regulations, internal policies, and industry standards, while proactively identifying and mitigating risks. By coordinating audits, managing governance frameworks, and supporting data protection initiatives, Irina helps safeguard patient information and maintain trust in our technology services. She also fosters collaboration across teams to embed best practices and strengthen our overall risk posture.
Although Irina has been with TransForm for a short time, her extensive experience prepared her well for this new challenge.
“After five months with TransForm as a Project Assistant, I’m excited to start my new role as Governance, Risk and Compliance Coordinator,” Irina shared. “Most of my 25+ year career has focused on quality management systems, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. My approach has always been rooted in faith in the fundamentals, continual improvement, and meeting the cultural needs of the organization.”
Trained as an ASQ Six Sigma Black Belt and ISO Lead Auditor, Irina is ready to take on the requirements of this role, which include governance audits and compliance, privacy compliance support, policy and standards documentation, and vendor risk management.
So far, the GRC position has been a positive experience for her.
“The aspect of my role that brings me the greatest satisfaction is translating complex requirements into actionable processes. I enjoy improving efficiency, encouraging collaboration, and recognizing employee contributions,” Irina noted.
The complexities of the GRC role make it not only important for our organization but also incredibly challenging.
“One of my biggest challenges is shifting people’s focus from symptoms to root causes. Sustainable solutions come from addressing foundational issues,” she explained. “I approach this by explaining the ‘why,’ listening to concerns, and clearly showing how these tools are helpful.”
Governance work also supports customer service. The more processes, standards, and policies we create, assess, and document, the greater the clarity and accountability for both staff and customers.
“During my short time with TransForm, I’ve seen many examples of exceptional customer service. Shadowing Michelle Marentette, Service Desk Analyst at the Regional Service Desk, during onboarding stands out—it set the tone for TransForm’s expectations. The volume of calls on a ‘slow’ day, the professionalism, quality of responses, and speed of resolution were impressive, not to mention the graciousness in explaining everything to me.”
A demanding role requires balance, and Irina has developed her own system to stay refreshed.
“After many years in high-stress, high-demand jobs, I’ve learned that balance is a priority. I’m fortunate to still enjoy weekly family dinners with my parents, siblings, and their families,” she said. “To quiet a busy mind, I love to draw, paint, and create.”
For those still getting to know Irina, here’s a fun fact:
“Earlier this year, I became a nationally certified Pilates Instructor. The Instagram-style Pilates is fun to watch, but my passion is helping others access movement, mobility, and balance—especially after overcoming my own challenges.”
The GRC Coordinator role may not be one we hear about every day, but it is vital to operational security, customer trust, and embedding best practices in service excellence.
“I know audits, policies, standards, and procedures aren’t exciting—but when done with the intent to help people, they become tools we use, not just rules to follow.”
We want to welcome Irina to TransForm and wish her the very best in her new role moving forward.
