Superintendent Search Critical to RPS Success

At Transform Rockford, we know that a thriving community starts with a strong public education system. Rockford cannot reach its full potential without ensuring every student has access to high-quality learning and leadership that supports their growth. Over the past decade, Rockford Public Schools (RPS205) has made notable strides—and we believe that momentum must not be lost.

With Superintendent Dr. Ehren Jarrett choosing not to renew his contract, the Rockford School Board faces a pivotal moment. Selecting the right successor is one of the most important decisions they will make for our city’s future.

Wally Haas, Transform Rockford executive director, outlines why this leadership decision is so critical in his recent op-ed, now available at RRStar.com.

Reevaluating County Leadership for a Stronger Future

Last week, mayors and village presidents from across Winnebago County came together to urge the restoration of the County Chairman’s executive powers—a move they believe will lead to more streamlined, accountable governance.

These community leaders shared how stalled projects, missed development opportunities, and delayed services have impacted residents and slowed our region’s progress. Their message was clear: when government functions efficiently, our communities benefit.

As the County Board considers this issue in the coming weeks, we as residents must reflect on whether our current structure is delivering the outcomes we need—or if realignment is necessary to keep moving forward.

Welcome Home: Honoring Our Returning Soldiers

Last week, more than 270 Illinois Army National Guard soldiers, including Rockford Alderman Jonathan Logemann, returned home after nearly 10 months of overseas service. Their arrival at Chicago Rockford International Airport was met with celebration, gratitude, and a deep sense of community pride.

At Transform Rockford, we recognize that a strong region is built by those who serve—both at home and abroad. We are proud to welcome these men and women back and thank them for their commitment and sacrifice.
