Celebrating the Spirit of Service: Excalibur & Excelsior Awards

Community celebrations never go out of style because they honor the organizations and individuals who drive progress and transformation. Thanks to a partnership between the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, Rockford Register Star, and the Northern Illinois Center for Nonprofit Excellence, hundreds gathered on December 12th to celebrate the 2024 Excalibur & Excelsior Awards, which spotlights excellence in community service.

The Excalibur Award recognizes individuals whose leadership makes a lasting impact, while the Excelsior Award honors organizations elevating our region. The addition of the Community Champions Awards further highlights emerging changemakers.

This year, Antonio Ramirez Jr. received the Excalibur Award for his outstanding contributions, and the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford earned the Excelsior Award for advancing health and education. These honorees exemplify what’s possible when vision and purpose meet collective action. As Transform Rockford works toward making our region one of the very best, we celebrate these leaders for inspiring collaboration and progress.

Persistence, Grit and Hard Work: Building a Brighter Future for the Rockford Region

Transforming the Rockford Region starts with investing in its most valuable asset: its people. Too many individuals face barriers to gaining the education and skills needed to thrive in today’s economy. Goodwill Industries is changing that by equipping adult learners with certifications and tools to secure in-demand, well-paying careers.

At a recent celebration, Goodwill honored more than 100 graduates whose persistence, grit, and hard work exemplify success. These graduates are not only improving their lives but helping transform our region by strengthening the workforce and driving economic growth.
