Serving Middle and High School

Administrators Since 1906

Greetings!

In a recent review of National Junior Honor Society Chapters in Virginia, your school was identified as not being a member. I encourage your school to join! You know your students already demonstrate exceptional leadership potential and academic excellence. The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is an organization that VASSP has long recognized and regarded as a platform to elevate your school culture with a focus on scholarship, service, leadership and character. The NJHS was founded by the National Association of Secondary School Principals over one-hundred years ago based on the four pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

Dr. Melanie Patterson

VASSP President

At VASSP, we recognize that this honor society program is not only an incredible opportunity for students, but also an opportunity for you as a school leader to continue to develop new student leaders who will make an impact beyond your building. Virginia principals created the supporting association – Virginia Association of Honor Societies (VAHS) – in 1995 to aide in the development and sustainability of NJHS chapters in schools throughout the Commonwealth. An annual workshop is held for middle and high school honor society advisers. My school is a member of NJHS, and we always take advantage of this VASSP sponsored workshop!

NJHS has been a transformative program for millions of students worldwide. Schools report immediate improvements in student engagement, school pride, and community connections from the moment their chapter launches.

Valuable Opportunities for Your Students

  •  $2+ Million in Exclusive Scholarships: Your seniors immediately qualify for NJHS-only scholarships, including our $25,000 top prize and all-expense paid Washington D.C. trips for the finalists

  • National Leadership Training: Students return from LEAD Conferences transformed, equipped with skills that set them apart as leaders in your school, community, and beyond

  • Distinguished Service Experience: Students give back to their school and community through structured service projects with their peers that build real world skills.

School Culture Elevation

The average NJHS chapter contributes 1,000 hours of community service annually, raises funds to help those in the school and community, and many chapters create lasting connections to local service organizations in and around the community. This demonstrates a significant impact that reflects positively on your school.

Everything You Need, Day One

The cost of an annual affiliation is $385 and your school’s chapter receives access and support from the national office, such as:

·        Expert support and adviser online community for immediate guidance

·        Training, both live and recorded, to ensure immediate success.

Please let VASSP know how quickly we can get your school connected to the honor society community alongside over 300 member schools from Virginia. For more information, please contact Megan Hart, Member Services Coordinator, mhart@vassp.org, 804.355.2777, ext 14. Establishing and maintaining an NHS Chapter is a proud accomplishment for a school and its school leaders—particularly the administration led by the principal and the faculty council led by the adviser—in administering a national recognition program.

Sincerely,

Melanie Patterson, Ed.D.
