Tracy Belden
Administrative Assistant / Scale Attendant
Hometown:
Fair Haven - I moved away for a while, but I'm back and so happy about it!

Family:
My kids: Amanda - 31, Jake - 22, Lindsey - 19, and my granddaughter Abbi is 9.

Pets:
Rosie, my Silkie Terrier and Tux (Tuxedo Pants Magee) the cat. He was orphaned at about 3 weeks old, so I bottle-fed him and became Mom. Side note: he doesn't know how to meow like a normal cat, so he yells.

Pet Peeve:
Poor grammar!!! To, too, two, and there, their, they're - figure it out! Also, punctuation is key! Everyone should use it.

Dislikes:
Narcissistic people, mean people, and non-Bruins fans.

Favorite Food:
King crab legs, but I only have them about once a year (I'm not made of money).

Favorite Color:
Best color in the world is green. Period!

Guilty Pleasure:
A weekend nap or a good margarita.
Hobbies:
Traveling, gambling, gaming...I have too many to list!

First Job:
Babysitting for $1/hour per kid...it was good money at the time.

3 things everyone should know about you:
1) Someday, I want my own giraffe.
2) I am a co-founder of a paranormal investigation group.
3) I am a hardcore gamer, whether it's killing zombies on COD or going all the way back to D&D (don't judge me).

Who do you most look up to?
My mom - she could read people better than anyone I know. I miss her awful!

Best advice ever received:
Don't take things too seriously.

Best part about your job:
Sounds cliche, but I love the people I work with! I enjoy coming to work!

Anything else you'd like to share?
I swear like a sailor, and I am wicked sarcastic...all of my kids had issues in school because they inherited my sense of humor (my son actually smuggled a fellow classmate onto a field trip in 6th grade)!
Transporting the Transformer
On Sunday, Bay Crane, escorted by Vermont State Police, brought a new transformer weighing approximately 720,000 pounds to the Sandbar Substation. The load totaled close to 1 million pounds and took 12 hours to travel the 60 miles from Williamstown!
Our crew at the Sandbar Substation prepared the site for Bay Crane to move the old transformer off the pad, and poured an 80 cy concrete pad to get ready for the transformer replacement. They also built a 53’x70’x6’ containment underneath where the transformer will sit, in case of another failure, as the transformer holds close to 40,000 gallons of oil.

We also prepared the site in Williamstown for them to load the new transformer.
Great work by our crew at both locations!
Another Week...Another Happy Customer!
Zack Thompson and his crew received praise from a Bennington resident.
Great job Zack and team!
Cupola Comes Down
Founders Hall Iconic Landmark Preserved
The Founders Hall building is in the process of being torn down, but its iconic cupola was painstakingly removed for preservation.

The cupola and cross - immediately recognizable, largely because of its use in the school's logo - will be restored and installed in a monument at that location in the future.
Check out the video Isaiah Coltey took of the cupola's removal:

Safety Topic: Hydration and Sun Exposure
Avoid Heat Stress and Injury
Exposure to hot environments or extreme heat can create a risk of heat-related illnesses and injuries. Heat stress is the combination of exposure to heat from physical activity, environmental factors, and clothing which results in an increase in the body’s heat storage.

It is important to remain hydrated and wear sunscreen, especially while doing manual labor in direct sunlight for long periods of time. It is suggested you use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher that is water-resistant for 80 minutes. Some tips for staying hydrated include:
  • Drink before, during, and after physical labor to replace body fluid lost in sweating.
  • Anticipate conditions that will increase the need for water, including high temperature, humidity, protective clothing, and difficulty of work.
  • Try carbohydrate/electrolyte drinks to help avoid heat cramps that can occur up to several hours after working.
  • Avoid coffee, tea, or soda, which act as diuretics, further depleting the body of fluid. Never drink alcohol while working.
When you are properly hydrated, you are healthier, safer, and more productive, no matter what the weather or working conditions.
Please stay mindful of the heat this summer, and stay safe!
