In other exciting Costa Rican news, our greatly anticipated Digital Nomad Visa bill was passed in July. If you’ve ever wanted to live in Costa Rica while working remotely and not having to deal with the hassle of doing visa runs every few months, now is the time to escape to paradise. 

To qualify, you need to already be working for a non-Costa Rican company, be able to work your job remotely and be earning a minimum of $3,000 per month if you are a single applicant. If your family will be coming along with you, the minimum increases to $5,000 per month. Once approved, the visa is valid for a year and can be extended for an additional 12 months. 

 For a few years already, Costa Rica has been trending as a digital nomad destination. While not the cheapest place to live in Central America, it offers many great work locations, stable high speed internet and great, affordable health care. There are a number of co-working offices across the country, which is a great way to meet other digital nomads.

Moving to Costa Rica with kids

If I had to give just TWO big tips on making a successful family move to Costa Rica, it would probably be these: 

#1: Nail the timing. For example, most parents choose to move between school years; additionally, you may want to factor in any applicable sports seasons, “last years” at summer camp or other milestones, and other completion of other beloved commitments. 

#2: Give your kids agency. Talk to them about adaptability, of course, but follow it up with tools and shortcuts to faster and easier transitions. And whenever possible, let your kids be a part of your big family decisions.
